Re: [Atheism UK] Re: Hello all,I have a help-question!

I repeat - how do you know any of what you say? You are going on your own
reasoning, which is fine, but it is only reasoning, and probably will change
over time. What do we believe - your views now, or in 10 years time? I thought
this site was for non-believers? You believe your theories just like Muslims or
Christians believe theirs. Atheism as a concept is a farcical contradiction in
terms. Is there anyone else who can see this?

As I said in my last post, the brain is not a cognitive prosthesis. Brain
death inevitably means personality dissolution. We have to face up to that
fact, and then decide from there how we want to handle it. Wishing things
were different won't change the truth.
Yours nihilistically,

Don't wish your life away !!! Very good point Elizabeth.

If you are not happy that this is it, and there is nothing thereafter,
perhaps you are a secularist rather than an atheist? A secular person may
believe that it is possible that there is a God, but in the absence of
proof, cannot accept it, and cannot accept the tenets of organized
religion;
is this you?

Death & Taxes: We all know whets going to happen, but how we all prepare
for
that is really down to the individual.

regards,

Vicky

Hi

I wonder what you are resisting? Is it that you need to believe there
is something there, after death, to help you through your life - that
you may meet your dead loved ones again? Unfortunately, I cannot give
you any intellectual answers or explanations or counselling to help
with this - as an atheist, it is just a deep down, inexplicable
feeling that this is it - if you are an atheist you just accept it -
there's no ifs or buts - no doubts - its just something I can't
explain. Some of the more intellectual of us in this group could
probably quote you the scientific reasons for being an atheist
(unfortunately I am not one of them!!) about the scientific origins
our little planet and how, by chance, life happened here, but, I
think if you are having a battle with yourself about dying and what's
after death, you are living in some sort of hope that there is
something else for us when we die. Of course, I worry I might get
cancer and die a painful death, or leave my kids early so they are
motherless, but I don't actually worry about the death of my body as
such. I do think that if you have to ask the question - you have
doubts about your own beliefs and should probably look elsewhere for
support.

Best wishes. Just enjoy your life while you have it.

Liz
