Hi everyone,
I'm a new member to the group. Although I generally get on with life
without getting particularly worked up on issues of faith and
religion, of late religion and religious believers seem to be getting
rather vocal which in turn has made me look a little longer into what
I do and don't believe in and I've even put pen to paper to some
thoughts down for the first time, which I might link to at a later date.
Briefly speaking, although I went to a C of E Primary School I was
brought up with very matter of fact beliefs in that although we as
humans may not understand or comprehend everything that goes on around
us, things are generally as they appear and that the notion of a Sky
God is essentially a human creation to avoid facing some of the more
difficult questions that life can present.
I was wondering if anyone's been listening to Radio 2 today? I don't
often listen, but I was hopping through the stations on the radio and
came across a rather lively debate on various issues related to
religion and belief. They've been covering everything from the Da
Vinci code to adult baptism, both of which were highlighted in the
news on Easter Sunday.
Anyway I'll leave it at that, aside from saying that it's good to find
a group such as this to discuss these issues and speak with fellow
atheists in a (hopefully) sensible and mature manner.
Cheers,
Dan.
