RE: [Atheism UK] meetings ?

Golden Oldie I respect your opinion and you have every right to express it
as do people who wish to meet to discuss there ideas. The right of free
association in enshrined in a democracy and any citizen has the right to
meet and discuss in groups. By contributing to this forum you are doing
exactly that, meeting like minded people albeit through an electronic
medium.

If you are not concerned by all of the religious icons and debris in our
society then so be it, it is your choice. But a word of caution, I heard a
Christian on radio 4 this morning talking about how we should engage with
extremists and that they are not wrong to have deeply held beliefs. A phrase
which he repeated in many forms. He was urging us to accept these beliefs
because they are claimed to be faith based and therefore somehow sacred and
beyond the law. It was interesting to note that if we changed the religious
group, of which he was talking to say, the National Front, BNP or the KKK I
doubt he would say the things that he was supporting their deeply held
belief.

Religion is an affront to our society and meeingt to talk through these
issues with likeminded people helps us to understand that we are not alone
and that it is not acceptable to have to accept someone's view. We gather
strength from the association and it helps to declare our position of
atheism, if asked, without fear.

Kind Regards

Andy

Subject: [Atheism UK] meetings ?

what is it with people needing to find groups or meetings ?I have no
need of these things, like religion I have no need of it either ,,you
can not preatch athiesime it then becomes religion ..I let my kids make
up their own minds about matters .they dont seem to believe in a god
either .as for all the crosses and religous rubbish round towns and
cities ,who cares it doesnt offend me ..as long as we bring up our kids
with an enquireing mind and able to question anything that is put befor
them ,they will decide what to believe or not as long as they have
enough facts and figures .it is thier choice to make .and any parent
knows that kids do the opposite to what we wish, thier way of
rebelling ,other wise we become just like all religions .. brainwashing
and fanatical . .

Well the reason I want to meet up with others is it's about time atheists had a voice in the way things are run- how are we ever to change things if we don't...
