the only one i still havnt signed is the "church pays for Church"
because many of the OLD church buildings church buildings in the uk are indeed
quite beautiful examples of architecture.

and even tho they are religious buildings, i still think they should be
maintained for their beauty.
tho i wouldn't mind seeing them encouraged to raise funds in other ways also.

im sure there are people here who would have liked to have seen Romes great
Coliseum(spelling?) in its full glory.

Subject: [Atheism UK] atheist-oriented online petitions

Hello people,

I just signed up, this is my first post, sorry if (part of) what I say

has been said before.

The UK government has made it possible for people to open online

petitions addressed to the government. Some of these would probably be

very much in line with the thinking of the audience here. For

instance, when it was decided that the House of Lords would become an

all-elected or appointed chamber, it seemed the 29 unelected seats for

the bishops would diappear. However, the churches have been lobbying

and now there are serious considerations for 16 of the 29 seats to be

retained, some of them being allocated to clergy of minority

religions. If you dislike that then please head over to

http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/ Episcopal/

There's a few more relevant petitions. Here's one calling for the

abolition of faith schools and ending the teaching of creationism:

http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/ faithschools/

While that petition has over 14000 signatures, there is a 'mirror'

petition calling for the mandating of teaching creationism that has

over 18000 signatures. If you can help rectify that situation, then

please do.

Other relevant ones, some with slightly overlapping subjects to the

ones mentioned above, are at

http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/ ChurchPay4Church /

http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/ NoCreSciEd/

http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/ No-to-religion/

http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/ schoolassembly/

Signing these petitions doesn't require extensive registration,

copy-pasting you address info between them won't take more than a few

minutes. Please consider signing them.

greets,

Peter

As a history fan I fully agree with the idea of maintaining the buildings. But the pledge claims that the church is sitting on billions of cash. How many...
