Hi all,
I have today received a reply on the issue of stop signs at the
junction of Naylor St and Stanley St. Not good news I'm afraid but
here it is...
"We cannot install STOP signs at a new site unless we obtain
permission from the Secretary of State. In order to gain permission
we would need to demonstrate a safety issue at both junctions,
1. I have checked the accident history at the junction of Naylor
Street and Stanley Street and there have been no accidents recorded
by the police during the latest 3 year period in which an injury was
sustained.
2.There were a significant number of accidents recorded by the
police at the junction of Mayfield Street and Stanley Street, in
which an injury was sustained. The issue was flagged up by our
regular monitoring of the accident statistics. We subsequently
erected illuminated Give Way signs and markings on Mayfield Street
and Mayfield Street was physically closed at the junction with
Market Street restricting ahead traffic. Since these improvements
were carried out no injury accidents have been recorded at this
junction. The last recorded accident was November 2004.
In view of the above, we do not propose to carry out any further
works at these locations."
