Subject: Re: [atherton] ARA annual general wash out
Hi All
Following on from Steve's Comments I would like to say first thank's to
Steve for bringing this to the site as I may not have said anything but
carried on.
I also from the ARA spend a lot of time on the Township meetings which does
give us a voice in to wigan and in turn then know what's going on.
Over the last month or so I have attended meetings to do with the change of
doctors hours and our very own Atherton Clinic is being refurbish to house a
new doctor who will offer more services in house and longer hours 8am to 8pm
The other meetings one was to do with transport and inner city Charges
(congestion charge) discussing better travel links more parking at station
better busses yellow busses for children going to school and so on.
Our parks and recreation facility's with Douglas park having play equipment
once again after there being none for 15 yrs.
So all this is very important to our town without the ARA I could not attend
Only yesterday rather than be a associate member I have applied for full
membership so I have a vote on items discussed.
If we don't get to carry on with the ARA then we don't have a say before
things to our town are done.
This E-Mail is only a small part of what we do so I hope you can spend a
couple of hours at our next AGM (General Meeting).
In our Constitution we need 17 people to make it happen.
Reminder
Please try to attend.
Thank you.

Subject: [atherton] ARA annual general wash out
I went to the ARA AGM last night and couldn't believe what I saw.
Present were
Alan Birtles (acting Chairman)
Jean Clark (acting Secretary)
Two Councillors
and me!
Now without shouting too loud at everyone, what the ferkin hell is
going on here?
The ARA was set up to benefit all the residents of Atherton, so that
means a sizeable proportion of the people reading this post.
It is an organisation that so many of you wanted when it was first
conceived, but that same organisation can only continue if it is
supported by the people that wanted it in the first place.
Alan and Jean have worked their tripes off on our behalf and quite
frankly, deserve a lot more support than they are getting at the moment.
The ARA is still very much in its infancy and it is crucial to its
development that as many people as possible support it in order for it
to get succesfully off the ground.
I appreciate that some people may have had genuine reasons why they
couldn't attend. There have been General meetings in the past which I
couldn't attend. These things happen, but to witness such apathy made
me ashamed to be an Athertonian.
The constitution says that there must be at least 17 people present to
form a quorum and that clearly didn't happen last night, so no meeting
took place.
The upshot of all this is that there will have to be another AGM in two
months time. If the apathy continues and a quorum cannot be formed at
the next meeting, the ARA.....YOUR ARA...will be in serious trouble and
may have to be wound up.
Alan and Jean need everyones support in all this and we owe it to them,
and to our town to give them that support.
So get off your FRIGGIN ARSES next time! (I promised Alan I wouldn't
shout but I'm SO annoyed)
You wanted the ARA. You've got the ARA. Now start to support it or it
will become history faster then Wiggin Metro can erect a no entry sign.
Steve (totally disgusted)
