Never mind your 200mph superbikes, the way forward (and backwards!),
though slowly has to be the Ural Dalesman 750 sidecar outfit.
Last Wednesday saw my first ride on a three wheeled (non symetrical)
beast. After a 5 second briefing from the passenger, Mr Julian
Swingler we reversed out of the drive then forward all the way to
Lincoln and back again. Getting stuck in first at the top roundabout
was probably just as embarrasing for Julie stuck behind us on the
Buell, but I soon got the hang of it and was welcomed with smiles at
The Halfway Heroes meet. Made it back again in the dark and planned
the next mission.
Saturday came and we thought it would be a good idea to go to Cadwell
to watch some classic racing Julian had some tickets for. We did
however have to go 20 miles out of the way to pick the tickets up.
Bloody hell my arse and leg were sore after 80 miles moving my leg 8
inches every time I changed gear.
Racing was good (including sidecars - there's an idea!) weather was
good lets hit the road home.
Well we got as far as Newark.
Misfires started on the bypass, thought we'd better stop at Farndon,
found it at blown one of the carbs off, but still misfiring after re-
fitting.
One hour later on the back of a big truck with flashing lights
(photos to follow). Still at least the Chinese that Julie had ordered
for 8 o'clock was still edible at 10.
Think it's an ignition problem, obviouly had rocker covers off at
roadside (because you can!) lets hope it's fixed for Ashby Folville
next week.
I think we'll meet you there! and yes we did wear open face helmets
but not split lens goggles, which we both do own.
