*2 July - 4 July*

The third and final weekend of the London Festival of Architecture
shifts its attention south of the river and brings an invasion of
woodland and wildlife to Southwark. Curated by The Architecture
Foundation, with the support of Better Bankside, Design for London and
London Borough of Southwark, the landscape of the Bankside area will be
transformed by orchards, mossed buildings, inflatable pavilions, sugar
cubes and a theatre made from salvaged and recycled material.

Taking its cues from the celebrated 'Bankside Urban Forest' scheme by
Witherford Watson Mann architects, the weekend focuses on a series of
green initiatives and an emphasis on exchange and sharing between
Festival-goers and the local community.

exchange between local residents and visitors to the Festival.
This weekend a series of free workshops and family friendly activities
will be taking place in the orchard so please come along from midday.

2 July - 30 September; Marlborough Playground, 11-25 Union Street; Free*
Come along to the Marlborough Playground on Union Street to see how they
are getting on with the build of a 120-seater theatre by
artist/architect Martin Kaltwasser as part of the Oikos Project. Oikos
(pronounced ee-kos) is the root word of economy and ecology. Embracing
these principles, the theatre company The Red Room, in collaboration
with The Architecture Foundation will be building the Jellyfish Theatre
to house two specially commissioned plays in September that tackle the
issues of climate change. Visitors to the Festival can visit the
information centre or take part in the Recycle Reuse Workshops led by
Martin Kaltwasser
