Putting my Village Hall Committee Hat on .....
The event was dropped due to a lack of interest really both locally
and nationally.
I originally suggested the event and created a vote on this site to
gauge interest but I was the only one who voted !!! When the event was
announced back in March we all felt that we had to register for this
as when it got to the anniversary if we were not putting anything on
people would ask questions.
With the successful summer naval display at Southampton, England
thumping the Aussies at cricket and Sven getting us to the World Cup
Finals I would have thought the nation would be hungry for more. This
was not the case though and sadly the event received absolutely no
airtime in the build up at all. We were dependent on the national
media building up the event as we were intending to be the only Parish
Council in the area to light a beacon.
With zero interest we then found that the official beacon was going to
cost around £1800 which clearly we could not justify. (OK we could of
made our own bonfire - but with it being so close to bonfire night we
really did not feel the turnout would warrant the effort). A lot of
time and effort is made for these events by volunteers who give up
their own time and so we all felt that having also just had the oompah
night we would focus our efforts on the psychic night and the x-mas
parties where we know the turnout would warrant the effort.
Unfortunately we missed the deadline for the printers on the
newsletter but please remember when the villlage hall committee do run
an event we always do post flyers.
Hope this answers your questions.
Cheers,
Trevor Knight.
