Hello from Rochdale!

i've been researching my family history and have found out that my

Great Grandfather came from Beal.  He was born there in 1851 and

although i have many names and dates and one day intend to visit, there

is a little mystery.  On the 1861 census he is recorded as living in

The Manor House with his younger sister and 2 Aunts, no one else is

recorded as living there and the Aunts don't appear to be working

there, as they were the daughters of the local blacksmith and

unmarried, such an address seems a bit upmarket! can anyone shed any

light on this for me?

I can't do much to help you I'm afraid. There is a Manor Cottage here

in Beal (N Yorks). I don't know the people who live there though. I did

a quick Google and there is a Manor House in Beal (Northumberland).

It is definitely Beal, Yorkshire, they were christened in Kellington,

which i believe is next door to you?

Looking at street maps, there is a Manor Lane which tails off at the

end, this does suggest that there was a Manor House at some time, maybe

it was already falling down when they lived there?!!

If you could give me the contact details for the local library, where i

could find any information, it would be a great help especially when i

finally get round to visiting the area
