Thanks to the two who replied especially mr perry. I have taken on
board what you have said and checked the specific markings you gave
and all with this car are in order. I have found some rust in the boot
but I gather this is to do with condensation which is common. It fires
up with a wonderful engine note and although I am a novice with this
car I can instantly see why they are held in such high regard. I'm
hooked!!

I do have one question if I may be so bold. Almost without fail I read
that the transmission oil changes are critical but the present owner
has stated that his advise is to only change the auto box oil when it
really needs it. perhaps i'm confusing engine oil for auto box oil. I
have to say that my experience with bmw motorcycles is that gear box
oil changes was quiet critical.
