I have been toying with selling my 635 to a good home. Will consider trades for
a Euro 535 or for a Cooper Mini. This car has been well maintained and has
original steel blue paint with the full leather interrior and rear seat cooler.
The dash looks like new, no cracks. I have also replaced wheels with BBS style 2
piece wheels. About 170k miles. Pics avail on request.

Here is my post on the Big Coupe Group on the difference and doing a swap.

http://www.normgrills.net/bcg/Tranny_Clutch.html#Anchor-Transmission-49575

A lot of the mechanical systems on the E28 are the same for the E24 (electrical
is different).

Douglas,

You might want to look for a 535is if you are looking for the sports sedan feel.
I have an 87 535is and it came equipped with front BMW sport seats, 5 speed,
LSD, a special suspension set up and a rear trunk deck spoiler. Much less money
than an E28 M5.

I find this car to be very nimble and quick and fun to drive. I also had an 85
535 with a 5 speed and comfort seats which rode more like a passenger sedan, but
still fun to drive. The plus on an 85 is that it has the Getrag 265 transmission
instead of the Getrag 260.

I had an m535 and A 525e back in England. both great cars but completely
different. In the UK M535s were plentiful. Are they easy to come buy here in the
US? What would I expect to pay for a real nice one?

All,

I have just returned back to the states after living in Europe for 15+ years,
most recently in the UK. In those years I have fallen in love with E28s and the
first order of business is for me to find one in teh states. That said, I was
wondering if anyone had any advice as to what I might expect to pay for a good
example, which models to look out for, as I know the US market had some unique
ones, and if anyone knows any good cars for sale.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Any members in the Sydney are wanting a 528i as a donor car are invited to
contact me as I need to dispose of my car. Sadly it has blown a head gasket,
which was the last straw. It is not in great shape - was recently side-swiped on
the driver's side while parked on the street, the result was a long scratch with
denting along the side as if a screwdriver had been used, and the passengers
doors on the other side are also dented. It is largely rust-free - I am not
aware of any rust. Before I purchased it 2 years ago, it had sustained front and
rear damage which had been repaired. Otherwise, the bodywork is in reasonable
condition.

It is currently drivable - just, but I would be reluctant to drive a great
distance in it in its present condition. Once delivered, it is my intention to
remove the number plates and return them to the RTA.

Please contact me before Friday 10th July 2009. If there is no interest, it will
unfortunately have to go to the wreckers on the 11th July. It will be sadly
missed as it has given me great pleasure driving it. Hopefully the replacement,
a 1993 520i, will give me as much pleasure.

Why would changing my spark plugs and spark plug wires keep my car from
starting?  I know it is getting fuel, i can smell it,

do the spark plugs have anything to do with the mass air meter?

usually on the dist. cap there is a number next to the socket for the wire.  did
you maybe knock any other wires loose? I dunno like may be the RPM or engine
position sensor plugs?

If you have the correct plugs then my bet is you've got the wires on the wrong
way round. Make sure you've got them going to the correct plug, check the book.
This is an easy error to make when you change plug wires.

doesn't the distributor cap have numbers on them for you to use as a guide in

Ya, I backed them all off and they are correct. I was able to get it running
for a few minutes without the air mass meter, which I thought was strange. My
idle was higher than normal but I never was able to get it to start before
without having the air meter plugged in. And as soon as I plug the meter in,
the car dies. Instantly. Any thoughts?

Got a 1989 635csi that I am considering selling. It's in pretty good shape
compared to some I've seen out there. It is metallic blue with full leather
interrior and rear seat armrest cooler. Also, 2 piece wheels and good tires.
Pics on request.

I almost needed a Scuba suit while removing that front air dam from the white
beamer at Pick and Pull (P&P).

P&P would happen to leave at the bottome of the slope, were it had rain heavy
and was still still standing.  Too bad I didn't have a camera with me, I had car
seats and any kinda of carpet from cars to try and stay somewhat dry. hee hee

No they are not hard to remove. Just a lot of nuts and bolts.

Some tight spots and flat wrenches can really help. Cordless drill with nut
drivers speed it up even more.

Can folks please remove the extra stuff from your posts so it is easier to read
and find what you are posting?

On my 2000 e39 540, I removed an aftermarket airdam last winter in about 3"
of heavy slush. The remaining bits were found to be attached with self
tapping screws into the plastic bumper cover. I'd guess for you that would
translate into self tapping screws (into the sheet metal).
