Hi all, this is an update from Sophie and Fiona on their campaign for
a playground at Potter's Fields. I will put meetings in the calendar
Dear Parents
Our update! We've been invited to a meeting with Stephen Cornford,
head of the Potters Fields Directors Trust, to "see if we can find
some creative ways of enhancing the park for children".
So if anyone has any ideas, we'd like to invite you a meeting on
Thursday 11th Oct at 8pm at the Anchor Tap pub just by Tower Bridge.
We're awaiting confirmation on Monday from the landlord that we can
have his upstairs area…so will inform you if the venue changes.
Our feeling (and the response from Stephen Cornford has reinforced
this feeling) is that a bog standard basic playground isn't likely to
be approved. But if we can get creative and get him excited about
something unique, special and in keeping with the area, then we could
get lucky!
We want to present him with a lot of ideas. Things we've come up with
that we like so far include:
An eco-friendly `natural' playground where kids play and climb and
explore on rocks, trees, a sand pit made from earth sculptures (these
playgrounds are quite popular in the US but not here yet, so
potentially a good media platform for the park too)
In keeping with the river location, playboats/pirates ships/a kids'
Tower Bridge.
Some kind of indoor play area.
Interactive art installations that change on a seasonal basis.
But please come and give us more ideas. Any pictures you can bring
along, that you could take at parks you like, or you download from the
internet to give us inspiration and to help our presentation, would be
fabulous. If you love something at Coram's Fields or kids adore
specific things at other parks, we can use the best bits as a basis
for other ideas……
We want enough good, inspiring suggestions to make him feel he has to
give us something, even if we don't get everything we ask for.
AND….we have another possibility we'd love your input on too. The
Unicorn Theatre has invited `Potters Parents' for a meeting to discuss
how they can better serve the 0-5 age group in the local area, from
story telling sessions, indoor play areas in the foyer, classes etc.
So again, any great ideas would be very welcome.
If you can't make the meeting feel free to email any ideas and we'll
be sure to include them.
Hopefully see you next Thursday.
Sophie and Fiona
