For those who haven't met him yet in the square, Corentin was born last
Saturday at 8 am (and came back home safely at 7pm), we are all
delighted and Jules is very nice to him so far...
We are foreseeing the logistic difficulties coming but during the
paternity leave there is a pair of arms for each baby, so everything is
fine!
Love to all,
Nathalie and Michel

PS: sorry for a name so difficult to pronounce! The "en" has the same
sound as "an" in "manger" (to eat in French), the "in" is the same sound
as in "matin" (morning in French)

and it is said to come from korventenn, Breton word which means "storm",
but I found many other explanations of its origin (including an Irish
origin)...

There are two more tour dates available for family walking tours of the
Southbank. The dates
are Monday 15th September and Saturday 20th September. On Monday we will be
walking to
the Southbank from the Mint Street Adventure Playground and then exploring the
buildings
in the area including the NT, RFH and BFI. On the Saturday we will be walking
from the
Imperial War Museum to the Southbank.

The tours will be done in association with the Friends of the Mini Mints. Each
tour will follow
a different 'trail' of the Southbank and hopefully introduce you to some hidden
treasures
along the Southbank and allow you to meet other local families along the way.
Each tour will
consist of around 10 local families and will run from 10.30am to 1.30pm. The
tour will
include a free picnic provided by the Friends of the Mini Mints.

So if you are interested please e-mail Rebekah@... or call
07977297854 to book a place or ask any further questions?

This year the Thames festival will include some rides and entertainment
for young children! At the back of Potters Field you will find a giant
inflatable slide (3 goes for £1.00) and behind City hall another 3
rides including rocket ships, tea cups and Captain pug wash boat/
clippers for 2-6 year olds (Maybe bit older.) all for £1.50 a go.

Riverside Parents will get 15% of the takings so roll up and enjoy the
show. If it is anything like last year there will be giant pigeons,
jugglers, music and street performers all day long. (Fireworks in the
evening.) Hope to see you there.

Hi Paola,

There is Harriet Sadlier - who I may have recommended before, let me
know and I'll give you contact details. Also I have had good
experiences with a few of the sitters at http://www.sitters.co.uk/ -
they are all checked out and quaified, and if you like them you can
book them again easily if they are free.

Hi All,

I am a bit more back in the world now.
I am thinking of having a tea group meet next week if anyone shows any
enthusiasm, as I haven't done it for such a long while everyone has
probably forgotten, NCT remind me that I am supposed to be the baby
tea group organiser in these parts though. My plan is to run some
meetings and see if anyone else wants to organise them too.

Anyway, calendars: I have been ruthlessly culling dates from our
calendar as I think a lot are out of date. Sadly the provision for
babies and toddlers seems to have reduced dramatically since I set up
this group 18 months ago. I have removed all the events I know are not
on any more or am not sure about and can't find immediately online
(RIP the Livesy childrens museum and the chipper club and charterhouse
in Southwark!).

I need your help to fill in dates, and tell us all about good things
to do now though. Any member can add to the calendar. I will add some
of the Coin Street centre events shortly, but does anyone know about
the Sure start listings??

Do send a message out to the group if you know of interesting classes
or one off events too, as that's how the group works best.

All best regards
Jessica

And also, are there any good pools for children around Borough. I'm

Dear all,

Just a reminder about the Friends of the Mini Mints Parent , Toddler and Baby
Group at
Mint Street Adventure Playground. We meet every Monday and Tuesday
(9.30-11.30am)
all year round.

The group is run by local parents for local parents with both toddlers and
babies. We have
a separate fenced off baby area and plenty of toys and activities for both
babies and
toddlers - including a sandpit!. New mums are especially welcome.

We aim to provide stimulating and interesting activities for your children
through messy
play, construction, arts and crafts and cooking - yes we also provide
instructions for you
to repeat all our activities at home after the group with your child.

Why not come along to our Apple Days (26th-27th October) in celebration of Apple
Day
2008 when we will be doing apple themed activities and giving out FREE APPLES
donated
by Borough Market Trustees. We will also be going on a trip to the National
Theatre on
4th November where the National Theatre are providing a arts and crafts and a
storyteller
themed around Bonfire Night.

We are local parents just like you providing a great place for your children to
play right in
the heart of Borough - so why not come along!! We are opposite the Fire Station
on
Southwark Bridge road and just down from Borough Tube station.

See you there

FRIENDS OF THE MINI MINTS!!!

Hi everyone at borough babies

just wanted to alert you all to a new Riverside Parent's afternoon
group that's meeting on Tuesdays between 3.30 and 5pm at the Downside
Fisher Youth Club on Druid Street (just off Tower Bridge road, a few
momments from Tower Bridge). It's been set up by a couple of mums of
two (and will soon run as a joint venture with the NCT) in a big gym
hall with toys for toddlers and a soft mat area for little babies.
Mothers/fathers/carers of all ages are welcome and we're charging a
voluntary fee of £1 to cover the costs of the venue hire. So if
anyone's at a loose end on Tuesdays please come along. there's a
waiver to sign at the door too - can email that out to people if
you'd like to fill in before you come.

Also wanted to invite anyone who isn't already a member of Riverside
Parents to join up (it's not an either/or - we'd love to have borough
babies parents on our distribution list too) as there are a few
things underway you might be interested in:

our xmas party (details to follow)
gymbouree starting up monday mornings with classes for 0-4 year olds
(details will be emailed to members as soon as it starts)

and also to make sure you know about little kickers which runs
classes for 2-5 year olds every saturday morning. And baby sing and
sign also at downside, 4 times a week.

we're working on getting tennis classes for toddlers, angelina
ballernia and also diddi dance into downside too (in fact if anybody
at borough babies would be interested in a diddi dance class on
Wednesday mornings for 2+ year olds (unisex) let us know as Anne
Marie the teacher is currently investigating if it's worth her while
running these classes.)

to join just email your details (name, address, mobile and children's
dob) to join@...

our website will be updated in the next week....it's really out of
date.

thank you!!

Just to let you know there is a new Friday (2.30-4.30pm) parent and
baby session at Colombo St Community and Sports Centre, Colombo Street,
SE1 8DP (just behind Christchurch on Blackfriars Rd).

The session is being run by two assistant health visitors who are
currently sitting there with no one coming along - they are there to
help answer your questions, help you interact better with your child,
give you advice about weaning, breastfeeding, etc... They are really
lovely ladies and used to be based at Blackfriars Settlement. So if
you fancy not queing up at Baby Clinic why not pop down there for play
and advice.

Seems to be open all your round and is free. To check call Nicole on
02074074651.

Hi Marine,
I'm now in Edinburgh and moved with C&C removals (I think Jessica's used them
too), much better than Pickfords when I moved from Borough to Crouch End.
They're based on corner of Swan St/Harper Rd next to Trinity Church Sq.
Good luck with the move!

a little late notice for tomorrow but wanted to let you know that the
Riverside Parents baby group is back up and running (see website
www.riversideparents.co.uk for details) and Kirsty is hosting with her
lovely little boy Hamish, from 10.30-12 on Mondays at Brown's Butler's
Wharf. All babies and their parents welcome for
tea/coffee/chatting/meeting local parents. No age limit, seems Brown's
is more suitable for those not yet toddling but all welcome. xx

rebekahbostan

Dear all,

Just to let you know that In toto theatre in association with the Friends of the
Mini Mints
are trialing a four-week subsidised Family Dance and Play Class at Mint Street
Adventure
Playground, Southwark Bridge Rd.

The trial will be used to determine the final format of a 10 week course to
start in January
2008.

The aim of the sessions is to combine music, movement and play for a dance
session that
involves both parent and child. All sessions will begin with some
storytelling/arts and
crafts/puppetry and will lead into the dance.

The unrestricted age classes are to allow parents and childminders to bring
children of
differing ages to a session. The longer session also allows for a longer lead
up to the
dance and for a break in the middle for snacks and rest. The aim of the trial
would be to
determine parental preferrance for the January class with regards the time of
the sessions,
the format of the sessions, the length of the sessions and the age guidance of
the
sessions. Your feedback will be invaluable.

Irrespective of the sessions chosen there will be a limited number of bouncers
and baby
mats available for pre-crawling babies for parents to use while concentrating on
older
children.

TRIAL DATES:
Friday 14th November - 9.30-10.30 (1.5 to 2.5 yrs old), 10.30-11.30 (2.5 to 5
yrs old)
Friday 21st November - 9.30-11.30 (all ages)
Friday 28th November - 12.45-13.45 (1.5 to 2.5 yrs old), 13.45-14.45 (2.5-5 yrs
old)
Friday 5th December - 12.45-14.45 (all ages)
£3 per family per class (irrespective of number of children), there are a
significant number

The longer session also allows for a longer lead up
to the
dance and for a break in the middle for snacks and rest.

£3 per family per class (irrespective of number of children), there are a
significant number
of free places so please contact Maxine Tapper on 07985380824 for more details.
A FAMILY CAN ATTEND UP TO FOUR CLASSESS DURING THE TRIAL BUT WE MAY RESTRICT
THIS TO TWO IF WE GET SIGNIFICANT INTEREST TO ALLOW FOR MORE FEEDBACK FOR THE
SESSIONS.

There are only a limited number of 10 places per class, half of which are fully
subsidised.

For further information or to book a class(or classes) please contact Rebekah on
07977297854 or Rebekah@... (I will have limited access to e-mail
from
Monday afternoon till Thursday afternoon, but will answer e-mails as best I can
on
Thursday evening/Friday morning)

You will be contacted on Friday 7th November to confirm your place.

Regards,

Rebekah
