Subject: [boroughbabies] Cot mattress- wanted for borrow or hire
Hiya All
Just wondered if any of you good ladies would have a spare cot mattress which
they could lend me for the run up to the festive period..?
We have quite a few friends coming to visit, and though I have suddenly ended up
with 2 cots, (actually, one's a cotbed, and ones a toddler bed I have just moved
B to, but they both use the same cot size mattress) I only have one mattress
(which my daughter uses)
Since we have a bun in the oven (so to speak) due in March, we will be buying a
new mattress.... eventually...., but it feels a bit early days right now
(superstitions are hard to forgo). I would only need it for the odd night in the
next few months, but probably best if I could borrow from someone who doesnt
need theirs immediately, and can lend it to me for the whole festive period so
we dont have to lug things about
Anyway- if anybody has a spare one I could borrow/hire - that would be great,
thank you
Cheers

Hi everyone
Southwark Playhouse has just started a weekly term-time only series of small
play/workshops for under 5s. We attended last thursday, and we were very
spoiled. my daughter and best friend being the only kids there. The show was
lovely, the handmade puppets exquisite, the workshop at the end a touch too
educational for my liking but overall I'd really really reccomend it. Also
there's nothing like it in the area and it should be supported, The space itself
is not your usual toddler venue either, Well worth the visit and the 3pounds per
child fee,(adults don't pay, 2.50 per child if you have a flyer/card, which you
can pick up at the theatre)
Every week there's something different, please check www.spsecrets.com for
details, directions etc
Also this thursday monthly toddler session at Tate Modern community garden
starting at 10.30. I don't have the actual webpage address but it shouldn't be
difficult to find it on the tate website.
I'm really pleased to have joined your group and I'm really enjoying receiving
all your messages. Regards to you all

Dear all,
Please see information on the Diwali event being held tomorrow after school
around Mint Street - please do note that due to the predication of heavy rain
the venue has been moved to 56 Southwark Bridge Rd, just up the road from Mint
Street Park, opposite the Island Cafe.
Don't miss the chance to celebrate Diwali with events taking place taking this
Wednesday afternoon (21 October).
Anyone who has not celebrated the Hindu Festival of Lights will be charmed by
this opportunity to explore one of the world's oldest stories, told
traditionally through puppets, drumming and songs, and to discover the world of
Rama, Sita and Goddess Lakshmi.
As Saleha Ahmed, Community Development Worker for the Bengali Women's Group
explains: "Diwali is a national holiday in India. It is the five day Festival of
Lights when we light up our homes and share sweet food to celebrate the triumph
of good over evil. It is important to our members who follow the Hindu faith."
The event is being coordinated by Bankside Open Spaces Trust. Its Director,
Helen Firminger, invites everyone to "put on warm clothes, bring torches, make
friends and share in the harvest festivities and seasonal celebration of Diwali,
while demonstrating the triumph of good over evil across two of our much loved
green places, Christ Church Garden in Southwark, and Mint Street Park."
Celebrations will start from 2pm at Christ Church Garden, Blackfriars Road with
a welcome from community leaders followed by workshops. According to Reverend
Tim Scott of Christ Church, "In many faiths, including Christianity and
Hinduism, we dedicate times of the year to the renewal of our lives and of our
faith. We seek to reflect on what has gone before and to reconnect with all that
gives light. Together, and through the celebration of our festivals, we can
increase our consciousness of the ways in which light can triumph over darkness
and good over evil."
From 3pm the procession will comprise children from Friars and Johanna primary
schools, together with members of the Blackfriars Older People's Project and the
Bengali Women's Group will depart via Blackfriars Road making its way to Mint
Street Park by 3.30pm. Events continue there until 5pm with storytelling,
drumming workshops and dance performances.
Venue: Leonard Cheshire Disability Centre, 56 Southwark Bridge Road, (at
junction of Union St) London SE1. Borough or London Bridge Tube Station.
Time for dances, puppets and story: 3.45 to 5.15 pm.
Sarah will be there organising the event.

Does anyone know if a parent and baby screening is happening today at
Bermondsey square? They are normally on at 11am but their office doesnt
open until then either.
P S I like the idea of manipulating the film schedule to our preferences!

Hi yummy mummies,
I just discovered that there is an online petition against 'The Tooley Street
Horrors', basically to ask Southwark council to make London Dungeon and The
London Bridge Experience contain the blood and guts to the inside of the
attraction as they are frightening to small children. If you would like to sign
here is the link

Thanks for this, Caroline.
I completely agree - it's a real nuisance. I put in a complaint to the noise
team at Southwark Council a few months back. They replied by saying that it
wasn't their problem since the noise was OUTSIDE in the street and not contained
in a building. They couldn't direct me to anyone else to make a complaint.
Helpful, huh!
I hope the petition is a bit more successful. Failing this, we could also write
to our MP Simon Hughes who has been a fantastic help to me in the past.

I have just decided to fire my cleaner as she nearly destroyed by Dyson and then
tried to hide it from me!! Obviously being 7.5 months pregnant I didn't really
think through the consequences of my actions this morning and don't really see
me scrubbing the floor at this stage as just making dinner is a difficult enough
task at the moment. So if anyone has a good reliable cleaner that has
availability, preferrably with working english and a desire not to destroy by
Dyson I would love to hear from you.

I have a great Ukrainian cleaner called Maria. She hasn't been coming to me
for very long but she was highly recommended by a good friend of mine who is
extremely fussy. Her number is 07533 623912. Her English isn't great on
the phone, but is better in person.
I really like her and she's also great with my daughter.
Hope you can work something out.
Brett.

really see me scrubbing the floor at this stage as just making dinner is a
difficult enough task at the moment. So if anyone has a good reliable
cleaner that has availability, preferrably with working english and a desire
not to destroy by Dyson I would love to hear from you.
Thanks
Rebekah

Dear all
Just a reminder that you're all welcome to an NCT-or-otherwise meet this Friday
afternoon, at our place, 74 Bermondsey Street - but we have changed the time to
2-4 pm, so that the little ones can go to the Hallowe'en party at Downside in
the morning. More details below...
Hope to see some of you and your little ones here!

Subject: NCTea group tomorrow at Leon and next Friday on Bermondsey Street
Hello everyone
I've recently taken over from Jessica as the NCT tea groups co-ordinator for SE1
- what a fabulous job she has done as this, so BIG thanks to her for all her
efforts - and what big shoes (albeit glamorous ones I am sure ;) ) left to
fill....
Anyway just to remind you all that generally the SE1 group meet will be on
Wednesdays at the Bankside Leon cafe, just behind the Tate Modern, from 10-12:
so please do go along tomorrow and enjoy a cappuccino escape from this chilly
weather.
http://www.leonrestaurants.co.uk/locations.htm
Every now and then I and a couple of other mums in the area will host at our
houses, so next Friday (30th), please do come to my place any time from 10-12.
We have two big comfy sofas for breastfeeding, plenty of mats and cushions for
babies, and also lots of toddler toys. We live at 74 Bermondsey Street (just
opposite the Fashion Museum) - there are two green doors with bells, and both
will reach us. We have plenty of space for buggies too.
For anyone who doesn't have them, below is the link to the Sure Start brochures
for Bankside and Rotherhithe, with lots of info about what's going on in our fab
area.

If you no longer want to be on this list, or you know someone else who might
want to join, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing some of you next Friday!

Lovely to see so many of you on Friday!
We have inherited a small plastic Avent milk container and spoon - I will be
working at home all day Monday if the rightful owner would like to come and
collect it, or I can keep it till next time....
There will be a Leon meet as usual this Wednesday, and every week, and I'll let
you know when we can have an in house meet again.
Stay warm in the meantime!

There's a class that runs on Thursdays at the Downside Fishers Centre
(Training for Life) on Druid Street at 13:00.
Or at least it was running during the summer. The course is free. I think
they're thinking of taking away the funding for it, so am not sure if it's
still running.
Worth giving the centre a call to find out: 0207 407 0093

Sorry I should have said those were the two classes I knew about! Thanks for
replying tho. My NCT group meet on Thursdays so I can't do that and I asked
about the 1st place classes today but there is a long waiting list and I was
told I'm not in the catchment area so unlikely to ever get to the top of the
list.
Any others? My posture needs some real work!

Hey all
Just wondering if anyone else had a spare cot mattress they can lend me. Guests
with babies arrive tomorrow! And this time, a bit more helpfully, to clear up
confusion, the dimensions:
140 x 70 cm
Even if its just for this weekend, would be much appreciated
