Hi all,
I've just found this group via a link on a site, spent a while looking through
all the photos which brought back many memories. Most times I went to and from
Bournemouth in the late sixties/early seventies it was by Royal Blue - it was
quite an eye opener when I first arrived to go down the tunnel! The early MW
only just seemed to fit so it was amazing to see an RELH down there. I often
wondered why they didn't paint the sides in Royal Blue colours to make the
scrape marks less
One particular thing about the H&D part was that in the winter they used to
leave the driver training bus running all night then if any of the service buses
wouldn't start the trainer would tow start it - in reverse! I often wondered
what they would do if one didn't start before they got round the horseshoe -
carry on down to the Square?
I was in Bournemouth at the end of the trolleybuses, some of the visiting
trolleybuses took unusual routes around the Square requiring a stop part way
round to swop the poles to another route. One thing that perhaps wasn't missed
about them was dewiring in high winds - I remember seeing two of them lined up
on Bath Road with their poles up in the trees and the crews struggling to get
them back down again.
