Hi Matthew,

I see that it was registered between March 2000 and August 2000. I thought that
all Bournemouth plates were either LJ, RU or EL under the old system. That is
why I thought that because it had an FX, I thought that it must have been bought
used.

Would like to see a picture of her.

MFX 175W was originally purchased by Bournemouth Transport, and is a little bit
of a celebrity?

This Fleetline is the last Fleetline to ever have a Gardner engine put in her,
and technically the last Fleetline delivered to Yellow Buses, as 174 & 176 were
delivered before her!

There is a chance that she may go back into Primrose and Plum livery complete
with the crest, but this will be down to the members of the South-West
Preservation Group, and is one of 6 possible liveries (inc Blue Flash!).

To join the South-West Preservation Group, just ask and i will advise how this
is done. We currently have 2 ex-Yellow fleetlines, with a third being added as
we speak, and the option on a Marshall bodied Lymp!

Hi Matthew,

Welcome to the group.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

I see that it was not new to Bournemouth. Where was it first registered in
Dorset ? Is it a 1980 bus ? I was really sorry to see the old primrose yellow
with the maroon band colour scheme change. That is the colour that I grew up
with in the 50's plus of course the green Hants and Dorset. The day the bus
station burned down certainly changed the face of the Square forever. A very sad
day to say the least in my mind.

I was back in Bournemouth last November 2007 and did not like what I saw that
they had done to the Square. I feel that the heart of downtown is no longer
there.

Any chance of a picture of your new purchase ?

Do tell us the history if you know it.

HI David

I believe you are also on SEMG? The last trolley ran on 20
apr 1969. I agree with you, I was there a couple of years ago for the first
time in about 40 yrs having been born in Poole in 1949. The square is now
very poor much nicer when it was full of flowers. The old bus station was
burnt down, I remember the Royal Blues and the ramp up to the hants and
dorset station. Did you go down to see the site of Bournemouth West
station? The old Midland Hotel is still there. Bournemouth Lower Gardens
are still as I remember them with the bandstand and aviary. No one floats
their boats in the stream anymore though, it's all gaming machines now!

Could somebody please tell me when the last Bournemouth Corp Trollybuses ran

?
I was already in Canada by the time this happened. When I was last living
there in 1959 I would never have thought that they would one day be removed.

I was in the Square in November 2007 and could not believe how different
that the centre core (The Square) has become. I must say that for me it was
a sad sight.

(Especially not seeing the old bus station)

I realize that this maybe off topic so forgive me !!

Hello Folks

From 1965 till 1971 I was employed as a conductor on H&D, first at
Bournemouth , later at Poole.

Having just discovered this site and having a quick look at some of
the posts, a lot of old memories are being refreshed.

I agree that Bournemouth Bus Station was the nicest. From my seat in
the staff canteen -on the firsts floor - I could overlook nearly all
the platforms and see what what going on all over.

Are there any other ex staff on this site ?

My favourite type of bus to work on was the older open platform ones.
The conductor could oversee everything the passengers were up to both
below and upstairs from the platform .The passengers were mainly
facing away from you so you could have a crafty smoke during a quiet
moment.

The least liked were the front loading type. The conductor's station
was right at the front and you felt that the passengers were all
staring at you. Also harder to be in full control. If you were facing
backward towards the passengers you missed seeing the road in front.
So more difficult to anticipate when the the bus was going to brake or
swerve in response to a traffic incident ahead.
If you faced the front then you weren't scanning the passengers so
you would be bound to miss the signs of an old lady getting a bit
restless as her stop was coming up. That would mean her missing her
stop and getting a justly deserved telling off.

Also the much older buses had ordinary light bulbs - it was at the
time when flourecent lights were just coming in . During the winter
mornings when your hands got very cold, you could take out one the
light bulbs and use it to warm your hands 'til it got cold. Then you
would put it back in and take out another one.

I could go on about the the tricks we got up to in those days - making
little bonfires of the contents of used ticket box, the visits to the
pub during the country journeys - the pranks seemed endless.

Must go now , it's bedtime

Hi Bob,
I too attended Winton & Moordown School but it was probably just before your
time there
- i was there from 1947 - 1949 when I left to go to Bournemouth School having
passed
the 11+ at second attempt. I lived in Ensbury Park & had some good friends at
W&M - one
of whom was David Wilmshurst - with whom it would be nice to make contact again.
David
had a bike & we would roam around the area with me sitting on the cross bar -
not so
much traffic then of course & for us kids there seems to have be so much more
freedom
than now.

all best wishes to the people of & from Bournemouth for the Christmas & the new
year.

Vic

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the site.

I used to live in Winton at 55 Talbot Avenue right next door to the boys home.

I have been in Canada since March 22 1959.

I have fond memories of the Bournemouth Corporation Trolleybuses and also the
Royal Blues and Hants and Dorset buses.

I used to work at Woolworths in the Square before I came to Canada..

Check my homepage out. Click on Bournemouth Buses for some pics that I took when
I was back there last in 1988.

Breaking news - front page of the Echo - Wilts & Dorset are moving back
into Bournemouth!!!! They are planning to move some of their vehicles to a
base at Southcote Road where Excelsior are based!!!!!!! The tile used "Bus
company moves on to Yellows' patch TURF WARS".
I think Go Ahead were put out by teh tendering system and the troubles that
were had when Transdev first tried to buy Yellows - no more updates on that
one at the moment though - think it's just going through the process!

well it looks like there is a passenger war going on in bournemouth
between yellow buses and wilts dorset,,,not a good thing really wilts
are just out to make cash without concern for their customers by using
the excuse about leaving the car at home,,i think they will be wasting
time and money as i beleive yellows have a long standing history in
bournemouth,,a very simillar thing happened near me a few years ago
where a national came in in but it didnt last long, they had to pull out
realising that they werent makin the cash,,,,and werent getting any new
loyal customers,,,,the town im talking about is warrington have a look
at the website and click on the company history
