Hello,

I have in my possession a number of Bournemouth blinds. I have a
few destination blinds, the eldest coming from one of the 1963
Leyland Titans (these being the first buses to introduce the four
glass front screens). The newest I have is one of the dayglo yellow
types that are still in use on Fleetlines and Volvo Citybuses.

I also have a large via blind from the front screen from about 1970,
another from about 1980 (when the font changed) and a modern dayglo
version as well.

If you are after a list of displays, the excellent "Bournemouth
Trolleybuses" book which was published by Trolleybooks a couple of
years ago has lists of trolleybus displays.

Finally, I also managed to get hold of the front destination screen
panel from Atlantean ORU 236G when it was being scrapped by an
operator in South Wales. One day I may try and rig up a set of
blinds for display (Sad or what!!)

Regards,
James.

Hi - any one here got access to actual Hants & Dorset or Bournemouth
Corporation destination blinds? Failing that, a gif file - or even
a list of the contents - of any known destination blinds covering
the area (West Hampshire/East Dorset) would be great. Post away!!

Hi David,

All links are welcome, thanks!

I'm afraid the photos of Trollies are from a another bus enthusiast as I took
very few photos back then which I'm very grateful for as I really liked them,
the turntable at Christchurch was particularly fascinating.

   Hi Stephen,

I have just had a look at your website for buses, trains, etc.

I see that you have some nice shots of some Bournemouth Trollies in action.

All of the ones that I took were at the time in 1988 being stored at I think ?
Mallard Road.

I also went to the Bournemouth Preservation page and see that they have a link
to my bus page.

Would it be alright with you if I added a link to your homepage for the Buses
section ?

   Cheers,

   Happy New Year !!!

The most recent proposal for the site is yet another cinema complex, as if we
don't have more than enough in Bournemouth anyway! At the moment it is still an
open air car park.

Hi David,

I haven't been to Bournemouth for about 4 years now but I think there were signs
regarding redevelopment of the bus station site when I was last there.

Welcome to the sight. I always enjoy seeing other people from my

Hi all,

I've just found this group via a link on a site, spent a while looking through
all the photos which brought back many memories. Most times I went to and from
Bournemouth in the late sixties/early seventies it was by Royal Blue - it was
quite an eye opener when I first arrived to go down the tunnel! The early MW
only just seemed to fit so it was amazing to see an RELH down there. I often
wondered why they didn't paint the sides in Royal Blue colours to make the
scrape marks less

One particular thing about the H&D part was that in the winter they used to
leave the driver training bus running all night then if any of the service buses
wouldn't start the trainer would tow start it - in reverse! I often wondered
what they would do if one didn't start before they got round the horseshoe -
carry on down to the Square?

I was in Bournemouth at the end of the trolleybuses, some of the visiting
trolleybuses took unusual routes around the Square requiring a stop part way
round to swop the poles to another route. One thing that perhaps wasn't missed
about them was dewiring in high winds - I remember seeing two of them lined up
on Bath Road with their poles up in the trees and the crews struggling to get
them back down again.

and the vehicle is currently at yorkshire Traction in Barnsley being
painted into all over yellow livery with the brwon Yellow Buses
names. Back and side blinds have been put back in and hopefully it

Yes: it is a book (an excellent one). My (1996) edition was bought from, and
published by, DTS Publishing Ltd, PO Box 105, Croydon, Surrey. Don't know if it
is still available but you could write to them.

owned by The Bournemouth Passenger Transport Association and are
currently aaiting restoration or have been restored, I will be able
to give you some more info soon as they are waiting to move to a new
site, Also after the sucess of my historic titanic website
(www.backtotitanic.co.uk) i have teamed up with my mate who was a H&D
clippie in the 60's and we are going to design a website dedicated to
the old H&D and the BPTA, I will update you on that as it happens, I
hope you enjoy the pics i have uploaded and will be uploading some
pics of saved tram bodies owned by the BPTA including pics of the one
involved in the famous Bournemouth tram crash.

Hi

The tram is being restored by the bournemouth passenger transport
association and is currently being stored in poole, I am about to join them
as walking round their yard was one of the most impresive things ive seen in
ages and they need all the help they can get to bring loads of classic busses
back to life, I have been trying like mad to get pics of the old bmth bus
station but no luck so far, I may be doing my own website about old H&D and
prob bmth buses to based mainly on the work of the BPTA as i suppose every
bit helps, I currently run a site about Titanic (Not the movie) @
www.backtotitanic.co.uk.

All The Very Best

Dear wpooletoryboy,

Thanks for posting the new pictures. Really enjoyed seeing them. What
year would the Bristol vertical radiator be ?

Regarding the tram that was being restored, where was it being done ?

It looks as if it was being done by the preservation group in
Bournemouth.

If you go to the following link you will find that I have several
pictures of Bournemouth Corporation buses that have been restored or
saved for preservation that I took at the Mallard Road depot that I
had taken in 1988 when I was last visiting Bournemouth.

http://members.shaw.ca/dballantine/Bournemouth%20Buses.html

Once again thanks for the memories,

Glad to find others who love this bus station!!
Great club! I have wonderfully hazy memories of being
aged 4 or 5 years old, 1966/67, on holiday in
Bournemouth, and green buses. Being from Coventry these were
lovely to see. Some excellent photos in "Hants &

I was 12 years old. An avid bus spotter, I
planned a day-long coach trip from my home town,
Worthing, to Bournemouth, by National Express. I spent five
hours in the summer sunshine watching my favourites
come and go - the last of the faithful LDs, the FLF
troopers, the workhorse FSs, the sleek REs bound for more
distant destinations - while all around the bustling
bright yellow Bournemouth Atlanteans and Daimlers teemed
around the Square. Home by 9pm, tired but happy. A day I
still commemorate every August 22 - call me rooted in
the past, I don't care....
