Waste of money
Can anybody from the police, Brighton and Hove City Council or Highways
Committee please explain the legality of the newly dedicated red cycle
lane?
This picture is of the bottom of Elm Grove after months of chaos and
massive disruption to put cycle lanes down.
As the picture shows, they are totally ignored and blocked all day by
numerous vans and cars.
I have never seen them totally clear. The whole exercise is a total
waste of time and money.

Lane drain
Don Franklin (Letters, December 30) is quite right - cycle lanes are a
waste of money.
I'm not sure if he is talking from a cyclist's point of view or that of
a disgruntled taxpayer. Either way, the answer is the same.
As a motorist, I am appalled at the amount being spent on rebuilding
roads for cyclists who do not want to use the lanes.
From London Road to the seafront in Brighton from 8.30am to 9am you can
see cyclists in the middle of the road instead of their lanes.
You can also see them jumping traffic lights. Worse still, they come up
on the inside when you are indicating to turn right.
They are a menace. At the end of the day, it is us, the persecuted
motorists, who pay.
Wasting money on these schemes is one of the reasons the council is
short of funds - this despite the huge profit from parking charges.
