letter from the Argus

First published on Friday 09 January 2004:

Give us a lane

My wife and I moved to Worthing just over four years ago from Norfolk
and we both enjoy cycling, especially along the seafront.

But the main road, which is the official route for cyclists, is
extremly hazardous, particularly for younger riders.

It is only a matter of time before a rider is injured or killed.

Cyclists are no more dangerous than roller-skaters, skate-boarders and
people in electric wheelchairs, who all seem to use the promenade.

Surely any speed limit imposed on cyclists could be policed?

After all, there seems to be a number of beach patrols on quad bikes up
and down the front, especially in the summer.

Hastings, Bexhill and Brighton and Hove have cycle lanes all along
their seafronts so why can't Worthing?
