Dear Cycling member

Firstly many apologies for not being in contact for a while - I was Out of
the country for a few weeks and since I got back my feet have not touched
the ground - And I haven't even been near a bike since I was in Mallorca!

The next Blagss ride will be a Grade 3 ride (Touring Standard) OFFROAD along
part of the South Downs Way on SUNDAY 15TH MAY LEAVING BRIGHTON STATION AT
10:15!!!!

Richard Wilson who is leading gives the following information about this
ride.....

Brighton Station to Eastbourne Station (one way!)

Meet at Brighton Station 10:15. Departing 10:30 am prompt

About 25 miles. Substantially off road

Route:
* Along coastal cycle track to Saltdean
* Inland to Telscombe Village and then join South Downs Way (SDW) at
Southease
* Along SDW to Eastbourne
* Stopping for lunch at The George Alfriston (a handy location because if
your brakes fail you'll end up the in bar anyway)

Three major climbs
* Firle Beacon
* Just after Alfriston (so easy on the lunch)
* Just after Jevington
All about 200 metres, but we'll take them very steady and wait for
stragglers. I recon I can push faster than I go using my granny gears so I'm
sure no one should get too far behind.

Apart from these three climbs the route could optimistically be described as
"undulating". But the idea is to have a pleasant day out without killing
ourselves. Hence the fairly early start so we can take a steady pace and
enjoy the views which are fabulous (let's hope for a clear day and a
westerly tail wind)

Any questions give me a call 01273 731766 or 07801 387400 Cheers Richard

I do hope as many of you that can will jon us on the day.

I can be reached on 07876 347368 for any queries about cycling - other
Scheduled rides include
rides on Saturday and SUnday 9th and 10th July ofr the East Sussex Cycling
Festival at Firle Place - Camping optional!!!! Likely to be grade 2 (
Recreational ) and grade 3 (Touring) standards.

There will be a Grade 1 ride on Sunday 7th August (the day after Brighton
PRIDE to blow away those hangovers) and a Grade 4 Ride (Sports standard) on
Saturday 3rd September.

I may well add a few other rides - especially in the build up to the London
to Brighton on 19th June to help with your training if you've signed up!

I am exceptionally busy at the moment so I would like to ease the pressure a
bit by asking you to consider organising rides yourselves - no special
skills needed, - just a bike (obviously) ability to count the numbers of
riders (useful at junctions to stop people taking a wrong turn) and some
local knowledge or mapreading skills.

Grade 1 rides (very leisurely pace - usually half a day) and grade 2 rides
(slightly longer rides - usually all day) are especially needed as we have
quite a few new members wanting to take things easier to start with.

Please get in touch and I hope to see you soon

Darrell
