Dear all, in case you haven't seen the press release which went out
today. Have a good week, Dean.
Work starts on `Cycle Freeway'
Construction work starts today (Monday 14th) to build the first phase
of a new cycle route linking the Downs with the seafront in Hove.
Following local resident consultation during summer 2007, the cycle
freeway will run the whole length of Grand Avenue and The Drive and
include segregated cycle lanes on both sides of the carriageway
providing a safe route for all cyclists and pedestrians.
Initial building work will start in Grand Avenue, and will be carried
out in stages to keep disruption and inconvenience to a minimum.
The southbound cycle lane on the east side of the road will be built
first, followed the northbound cycle lane on the west side of the
road. Two accessible bus stop build outs will also be constructed to
benefit bus passengers by improving accessibility on to and off from
buses.
The whole scheme should take approximately 18 weeks and the work is
being carried out by R J Dance (Contractors) Ltd.
