I found the new shop Purl and met the owner called Debbie.  They are open now as they are running childrens' workshops in the summer hols, then will be running after school craft clubs.  The shop looks very nice with a table to sit and knit at.I may go over one Thus. eve to check out the kniitting group but will not be forsaking Starbucks xx Karen

I heard it's closed every Monday (my only day off, boo......) and also
closed for the rest of August now - so no point trecking all that way just
yet. It's next to the Marquis of Beaumont pub in Seven Dials area. I
drove past a few weeks ago and it looked small but pretty. They have a
knitting group on Thursday evenings from 8, with wine. Might pop up one
Thursday to have a look, but it's not on public transport routes at all, so
a bit tricky to get to.

Yeah, that makes more sense, sorry!   I knew it had something to do with purling the knits and vice versa - might try it with an uneven number, it'd probably look quite nice.  It took me ages to work rib out, I kept getting a messy version of moss stitch and it was really annoying....

As far as I know you do not have to have an even number of sts for
ribbing, you can do for example K2, P1 if you want. The only thing to
remember is that if you K1, P2 on row 1 (front of work) finishing with
P2 when you go back and work along row 2 you must do K2 P1 You must
purl into the stitches that you knitted on the first row and knit into
the stitches that you purled on the first row to maintain the rib,
otherwise you end up with a sort of moss stitch. Also the number of
each stitch that you do affects how much the rib pulls in the width of
the piece - I think K2 P2 rib pulls it in more that K1 P1 rib but I'm
not 100% sure . Hope this helps

Rib has rules! It needs to be an even number - knit 3, purl 3 etc - as you
need to knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches on the next rwo.
So k5, p3 wouldn;t work, it'd be irregular. Isn't that right everyone??
I know it's something llike that, but it might be purl the purls and knit
the knits......

Have a look at this -

are probably better guides, I just don't have time to search for one,

Good Morning Ladies (and Gents if there are any!)

Had a 'moment' with my new project last night!

I think it is basically a rib pattern, have decided to go my own way
with it as the pattern talk is far too complicated!

So my question is - how many shall i knit and how many shall i purl?
is there a set way? eg i was thinking k10 p5, do you think that would
work? It is a kind of wrap thing, so should be quite straight forward
really!

Any help much appreciated!

Yes, it's on Upper Hamilton Road (near the junction of Old Shoreham Road
and Dyke Road). I went by there about 4 weeks ago and they hadn't opened
yet but were putting out stock. Seems they've been running a lot of courses
for kids over the holidays. Hoping to go there again this weekend and
expect they will be open. Will let you know what it's like.

Fab idea - I agree I'd need a few weeks to sort mine out too.....

Would it be possible to bring any odd bits as well as whole balls - I've
got lots of stuff which I'll never use again (Kidsilk Haze.......) but have
started on, and I know I use odd ends for my crochet blanket.

How about the first Wednesday in September?

Yesterday at S'n'B Mary suggested having a yarn swap (considering she's
a very new knitter, she has already acquired a considerable stash, but
still wants more! Can you believe that???)
I'm sure we've all got yarn that was bought for a particular project,
only to find that we've changed our minds or just plain gone off it
altogether so there's bound to be something lurking at the back of your
cupboard that you hate, but would make someone else very happy.
So, how about it?
We all bring in unloved/unwanted yarn and swap it with someone
else's "I'll never use that in a million years" stuff.
Maybe we should set a date (so I've got time to look through the entire
house for yarn that's been squirreled away) for a couple of weeks time,
and then bring it all along for a stashfest swap.

Anne

As I noticed this morning, there is a link section to this group-
please add to this any websites that you have used.. It can be
particularly useful for shops, as some are better than others! You can
also put comments on there, so maybe a few words as to why you've
chosen that site would be good too??

Just a quick line before I go to work at the Fabric Shop. Glad I made
it over to Starbucks from Worthing yesterday despite the cancelled
train etc. Great to see so many there. I am busy making liquorice
allsort sweets and other assorted nonsense for presents/craft fairs.
The cold weather has made me abandon my crochet cotton top in disgust
and start on a shrug in Wendy Fusion. I am trying to make it side to
side so that the colour change stripes run downwards - so much more
flattering for the mature figure! Love to all Karen

Hello,

Thanks for setting up this group. Wicked idea.

Can someone let me know what time you are meeting at Starbucks these
days ? I haven't been for a while but now that summer seems to have
flashed by I'm feeling the urge to knit again !

Good ideas there Steph.
Perhaps a reminder about Sunday's picnic? All I know is that it's in
Preston Park, but no idea of times or exact location. I won't be there
(boo hoo) 'cos I'll be in Winchester.

Any suggestions? I was thinking pattern/book/magazine reviews, yarn
recommendations, organising group events and general questions about
knitting/crocheting.

Add any comments/suggestions and we can get up and running!!
