Hello everyone!
Brighton Stitch and Bitchers (Tuesday knitting group at the Sanctuary) are
making knitted/crochet items for an exhibition of seasonal knitted fruit and
vegetables in the tearoom at Hove Museum to coincide with National Knitting
Week.
Is anyone interested in making something for the exhibition? The deadline for
handing stuff in is Tuesday, September 23....
So far, we have a cauliflower, pumpkin, a group of plums, pineapple (not very
seasonal, but will look fab). I'm doing a dish of beaded blackberries but we
really need lots more fruit and veg to make a decent show!

Hiya Ladies,
Sorry I haven't been around lately, but people are still on holiday
at the moment, so I'm still covering.
I just wanted to know what are the arrangements (especially travel)
for I Knit Day? I am coming, but I probably won't be popping in on any
Wednesday until at least the end of September, when this holiday year
ends and the next one begins, unless any miracles happen, so I need
someone to keep me posted on all the details to keep me in the know
about what's happening.
If I don't see you before, see you on I Knit Day!
Yolanda
In regards to my last message, one of my colleagues walked out
yesterday and we don't know if he'll be back, so I have been roped in
to cover his shifts, which I'm still annoyed about, so I won't be in
tomorrow, much as I'd like to be. I was going to ask someone to join
my DPNs in the round again as I have been tempted by another sock
pattern and Knit 'n' Caboodle are out of those sock circulars again!
Oh well, I'll see you all when I see you...

Hi Ladies
I hopefully will be in this Wednesday before I will be busy for the
next few months covering everybodys holidays, so you don't wonder if
I'm still in the land of the living or something. I have yet to ask my
boss if I am entitled to more than 5 holiday days a year before this
holiday year ends. So I shall see you all Wednesday!
Just seen the afghan, it's gorgeous! Would love to be able to crochet
like that! I love it!

Thank you. :) I had so much fun working on it! It took me much longer
than expected because of my job but I was also moving into a new flat
so things always got in the way. :)

group. For any of you who don't know or can't remember me, I'm the

Thanks to my most recent job I've been unable to attend the weekly

I have had an e-mail from someone looking for a knitting group focussing on charity knits, does anyone know of any that meet in Brighton (or nearby)?
I have reproduced part of the e-mail below so you get the idea, Please e-mail me back if you know of anything I can pass on. Thank you
E-mail: There was one where I used to live which focused on producing things for charity; blankets, clothes and toys for disaster areas, and prem baby clothes for hospitals in Africa. It was quite well organised, with the group receiving donations of wool, and also it was a great way for elderly or lonely ladies to meet others and feel they were making a valuable contribution to society. (I'm neither, being a mere bloke doesn't work due to M.E., but I do love to knit!) Do you know of any other groups similar to above?

Hi All
Looks like the Big Knit In at University of Brighton is on this Sunday!! (1st June)
I got an e-mail today with the information below (it's not clear quite what time it starts, but past years it's been 12 midday, it does say workshops between 2-4pm)
If anyone's available to go I'll meet you there! (between 2-4pm)

The Big Knit In 2008
The Big Knit In is an annual, free, community event hosted by the University of Brighton to promote knitting and crochet. There are lots of things happening throughout the day, including the opportunity to make your own chunky wooden knitting needles and machine knitting ‘tasters’, to help all those people who bought machines but never really learnt how to use them. So come along and have a try, then go home, drag it out from under the spare bed, dust off the cobwebs and off you go!
This year we are hoping to get everybody involved in the Oxfam campaign to highlight the plight of women around the world who die in pregnancy & childbirth. The giant baby blanket has been started in Leeds & by September Oxfam need 250,000 9” knitted squares-one for every mother who did not survive pregnancy or childbirth because of a lack of access to essential medical care.
We are very keen this year to promote the idea of recycling textiles-whether it’s unravelling old jumpers or cutting up garments to create lengths of “yarn” to knit with, in this day & age of cheap disposable fashion and it’s impact on the environment the philosophy of “make do & mend” has never seemed so relevant.
There will also be a giant knitted octopus which is a communal piece of knitting; the tentacles are slowly growing at each event it visits & there will be giant knitting needles & French knitting for people to have a go with.
As in previous years there will also be knitted textile students acting as ‘knit nurses’, helping and instructing throughout the day. When you need a break, you are welcome to take a walk around the graduate exhibitions which are in the main building.
The Big Knit In takes place on Sunday 1st June 2008 at the University of Brighton’s Grand Parade Site. It is supported by donations from Rowan, Designer Yarns, Pony Needles & Brighton based shop Purl.
Events will be added to the website as they are confirmed so make sure you regularly visit www.knitin.co.uk to keep up to date.
I will be out of the office starting 16/05/2008 and will not return until
21/05/2008.
I will respond to your message when I return. For urgent matters please

Amber Bailey on (01273) 293793 thank you.
