G'day Would Be Gardener;
Firstly let me welcome you to this small group. Newcomers are always welcome
and prospective collectors even more so.
'Fakes' is probably the wrong word. It implies a deliberate attempt to mislead
with forgeries. 'Copies' might be a better term. Most of them are just toys
made in Hong Kong with little or no attempt at realism and lack the attention to
minute detail that Britains put into the 'real' thing. They are not a serious
issue.
The main problem is that many sellers are not collectors and anything that looks
like it belongs in a garden is often described as being Britains - usually,
though not always, in ignorance. You will often find other Britains products
lumped in as well like people, hedges and gates from the Britains Farm.
If you have any doubts about any pieces being offered please feel free to email
me with details and I'll be happy to confirm or deny its authenticity. I think
after 40 years of collecting I should know my Britains Floral Garden....
Cheers;
Michael
