I've created a photo album called Carl Farmer and uploaded a photo to it. First time I've tried this, hope you can all find the photo! (click on "Photos" in left-hand menu) Please let me know if not.
The pic is of a gall on Plantago lanceolata that I found the other day on the Isle of Skye. The leaves are inrolled and distorted and inside them among the hairs are large numbers of tiny creatures about 0.1-0.2 mm long and a quarter of that wide, too small to make out any detail with my microscope. They start off white or translucent and turn pale brown, starting with the head. The only gall in "British Plant Galls" that fits it is that of the mite Epitrimerus coactus, but this is said to be rare, and I can't find any info about it. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any idea whether this is likely to be the causer in this case, or has any alternative ideas.
Many thanks
Carl
