Sorry, Jojanneke, I should have got my brain into gear before looking
at your photo not after! It was the yellow flowers which were galled
not the seed head, of course. I think it could well be Contarinia
jacobaeae (on Senecio jacobaea) but this could be confirmed by
finding yellowish orange jumping larvae inside. The examples of this
gall that I have found have had fewer florets and a more pronounced
swelling. The Aidgap Keys say other cecids may gall Senecio flower
heads. Let's consult the experts next weekend!
