Re: [british_galls] Andricus grossulariae

Hi Malcolm,

you are correct that's A. grossulariae. Intriguingly it looks as if they
developed from a dormant bud from last year?

Cheers

Karsten

Have just uploaded two photos to the photos area (in Album: Malcolm)
On Quercus robur, 6 Sept 08. No sign of any acorn, but it was growing on a
short twig such as where an acorn might have formed.
Think it's the agamic generation of Andricus grossulariae.
Found in (West) Berks (between Newbury and Reading) VC22, SU540690.
Be grateful for confirmation of ident.

This photo from Hainault Forest in Essex looks quite similar:
http://www.hainaultforest.co.uk/4Diary2004archive.htm
(about halfway down the page)

The leaves also have a few tiny swellings on the midrib and major veins each
with a pair of flaps of tissue protruding from a central split. Anybody
recognise these? Perhaps not galls but will try and photograph.

Many thanks
Malcolm Storey

Hi Karsten, Yes, I have a grid reference for my finds, it is ST 644696. I found both A.grossulariae and N.saliens on the same tree (Quercus cerris) this year....
