government to discuss abolishing benefits
Date: 08 Aug 2009
Message: I wanted to alert you in case you don't already know that in around 90
days time without public interest, dialogue or media attention, the Government
is likely to accept a Green Paper that proposes abolishing Attendance Allowance
and Disability Allowance, benefits that are used by the most vulnerable sections
of society, the ill, the elderly, the diabled and those who cannot care for
themselves such as the mentally disadvantaged.
Up to now, the benfits have been independently allocated by claiments but the
Green Paper says the money should be given to councils to handle, to fund
"services" instead. Just how they will smooth over removing vital benefits of
around 4 million elderly and disabled people I do not know!
I would do a youtube piece on this myself but don't feel able. Is there any
chance you could cover it? It's vital to get the information out before it's too
late.
There is an excellent piece here
http://www.communitycare.co.uk/blogs/social-care-experts-blog/2009/07/adult-gree\
n-paper-could-be-cat.html and it's also covered on the Benefits & Work website
who have done sterling work protecting the interests of the poor and needy
(unlike this Government, it must be said.)
Their link gives the news and links to various reports and updates, incluiding
the campaign to get this situation publically kinown before the deadline in
(now) 99 days!!
