Hello,
I am visiting Malta from 1 Jan 2004 for 2 weeks, and as such would be
v.v.grateful if members kindly responded by 31 Dec 2003 (sorry for
short notice). I'm planning to buy a house in Malta. I'm currently
residing in the UK, and plan to visit Malta for 2-3 months a year on
holiday. My questions are :
(a) I understand non-residents cannot rent out property. Is this so ?
(b) If so, what will happen to the house when I am in the UK ? Can I
appoint a caretaker to look after it, and roughly, how much do such
caretakers cost?
(c) I also understand that non-residents can only sell to residents.
Is this so ?
(d) If so, is there a risk that the property will fall in value if I
ever decide to sell it, as residents may not be willing to pay as
much as foreigners ?
(e) Are any of the laws in (a) and (c) likely to be changed once
Malta enters the EU ?
(f) Finally, when I am in Malta, can I hire domestic help for tasks
like cleaning rooms etc ? How much do they roughly charge for their
services ?
Thanks in anticipation, and very merry seasonal greetings
