Re: [British Expats in Malta] Mother and Daughter wish to move to Malta.

Its a great place to live as long as you have plenty of spare capitol. It will
cost you 100liri or the equivilant in euros to bring your good on to the Island
via customs.Rents are high to x-pats and as a female ..finding work will be
tough. You will also need a work permit up untill 2011 and this can take some
time to gain. Its best to find an employer before you move there..otherwise you
will have to leave the Island every 3 months for up to 48 hours and that will
entitle you to live there for another 3 months. If you do get a job,the wages are
very poor.Bar work/hotels and cleaning are an option but if you do any form of
care work,i.e nursing and are fully qualified then you stand a good chance of
work. But beware you DO NEED a work permit, and this will only last you 1 year and
takes around 3 months to come through and of course this has to be re-newed
every year untill 2011 and it also costs you to get a permit of which takes a
great deal of patiance and running around.Lots of x-pats
live in the Marsascala area,so there is plenty of people to ask for
guidence....NEVER NEVER take a Maltese local to offer you advice as they dont
know themselves. But hey its warm and friendly but expensive.Best Of Luck

Hello everyone,

I've just joined the forum, and I do hope I'm not being too hasty in
posting a message. Anyway, I have a few questions regarding moving
to Malta, so any help would be lovely.

Me and my Mother have had a rocky year to say the least, and now
things have calmed down some what, we're both looking to move to
Malta for a fresh start. We used to travel there quite often, as it
became a family favourite come holiday trips and the likes.

Our main question/concern is about how difficult it is to find work
in Malta. We've come across conflicting stories through our hunt for
information online, and some say it's easy, yet others say it's very
hard to get a job in Malta. We're rather confused now to be honest!!
Also, does anyone know if it has become easier to find work since
Malta joined the EU?

That's about it for now! Any help and/or advice would be greatly
appreciated, so please feel free to reply via the forum or send me
an email.

Thanks!
Jess
