Jo,
I live in St Julians & it is about a 10 minute drive to Valletta but
during working time it could probably take you about 30 minutes.
Mellieha to Valletta would be quite a long drive by Malta standards
but nothing is far in Malta compared to the UK. In Mellieha & Attard
you will find more houses to rent but you can get some in parts of
St Julians which are nice to.
I've lived in Malta for 5 years & I am very happy here & know lots
of expat who are. I have also known of several people who have
brought their dogs in from the UK & other countries with no
problems. One friend brought her small dog over & it sat on her lap
on the plane. I have never heard of dogs being badly treated or
shot. I am a member of the SPCA here & I am sure action would be
taken against any bad treatment of animals if reported.
As regards quarantine some of my friends dogs did have to do it but
this was before Malta joined the EU. I am not sure what happens now
but maybe the British Embassy in Malta could help you with this type
of question, or should be able to point you in the right direction.
I hope this is of help to you & good luck
Best Regards
Rosie Hollingsworth
