This month at Cleland & Souchet, Portomaso
the artist C.S. Lawrence will be exhibiting her new collection:

“Sacred Feminine”

Over the past two years the local art connoisseur has had the
opportunity to become aware of and possibly met C.S. Lawrence, an artist
whose fervent endeavours are reflected in her three solo exhibitions.
Together with the recent inauguration of her art studio, she has, in a
rather short spell of time, established her name and her unique artistic
style.

Each of her three solo exhibitions in Malta so far had different themes
which vividly outlined her versatility and innovative flair. Her
introduction in Malta was an exhibition held in a hall located in the
bastions of the historic fortress city of Vittoriosa which quite
appropriately focused on the dramatic splendour of the Knights of Malta.
Faces of Africa, the title of her second exhibition held at the Casinò
di Venezia was a vivid representation of her love for the African
continent where she was born. In the courtyard of the Manoel Theatre
Lawrence then presented Links, a

collection of exotic portraits of women which was inspired by the dual
influences of her increasing interest in legendary female characters and
her father’s memoirs of his life in Egypt. C.S. Lawrence who asserts
that “Art is my lifelong passion” will now be presenting a further
collection with another new theme. Myths and legends can represent
obscurity yet for some these elements can be a source of inspiration and
vision, which is clearly the case for Lawrence.

“I am inclined to believe that all forms of “primitive” spiritualism,
encompassing mythical legends and pagan practices, were more civilized
than modern civilization itself because the roots of their belief system
lay in respect for Mother Nature. Central to that concept was
recognition of and respect for aspects of the feminine,” remarks
Lawrence.

Such expressions combined with an exciting enigmatic title as Sacred
Feminine creates an air of anticipation for Lawrence’s current
exhibition which will remain open to the public throughout November.
There will be a special opening night to coincide with the launch of the
new 2005 Beaujolais wine on 17th November at 8.30pm. For more
