I always thought Malta was sunny, warm, dry and bright.Alas no.People keep
telling me its the HUMIDITY that makes everything cold and damp. Its not, it has
rained almost every day except for one or two days since Christmas. The houses
are made of sponge (sandstone)and soak up all the moisture. If you look on the
weather sites and compare humidity levels in the UK to that in Malta it is often
more humid in the UK but you try to convince people of that. Also despite being
the most generous kind friendly people you could meet. When it comes to heating
many would rather sit and shiver than to pay for any form of heating. Why I dont
know. Roll on summer. I think I am suffering from SAD. Hope you will come back
and see us again despite the damp.
Keep warm xx

Hello everyone. I was last in Malta during the wet weather in January
and the modern hotel in which I stayed didn't cope too well with the
rain! Enormous damp patches appeared on the walls and water even ran
down the walls and pooled on the floor. It should have been well-built
as the owner was a builder.
It got me thinking about new vs old construction in Malta, limestone vs
breezeblock. Looking at the new apartments and houses being built of a
single layer of breezeblock, it struck me that the construction wasn't
particularly suitable for wet weather and that it would provide little
insulation against the heat in the summer.
I'd be very interested to hear any of your thoughts on the subject.
Cheers, Grace
