Re: [British Expats in Malta] Limestone versus breezeblock

Thanks for your comments Marilyn. I agree with you - I didn't find
Malta humid, just rainy! I asked my question as I hope to move to
Malta and wasn't too impressed by the breezeblock constructions. But
from what you say, the sandstone/limestone also has its problems.

The weather certainly didn't put me off (a bad winter's day in Malta
is still better than a bad winter's day in the UK). In fact, it has
probably given me an excuse to come back earlier than planned, to do
all the things I didn't do last time.

Best wishes, Grace

no.People keep telling me its the HUMIDITY that makes everything cold
and damp. Its not, it has rained almost every day except for one or
two days since Christmas. The houses are made of sponge (sandstone)
and soak up all the moisture. If you look on the weather sites and
compare humidity levels in the UK to that in Malta it is often more
humid in the UK but you try to convince people of that. Also despite
being the most generous kind friendly people you could meet. When it
comes to heating many would rather sit and shiver than to pay for any
form of heating. Why I dont know. Roll on summer. I think I am
suffering from SAD. Hope you will come back and see us again despite
the damp.
