HI Sara,
My name is Holly and I just moved to Malta with my 1 year old son a week 1/2
ago. We're Americans - but we moved here from Thailand (we lived there for the
past 10 months). I work from home and take care of my son during the day and I
am in the same situation as you. I used to work outside and that is where I met
most people. Where in Malta will you be moving to? I live in Sliema - 3 blocks
from the mediterranean and there is a really great park near here and that could
be a good way to meet people. I go there everyday and chat with people a little
bit but haven't made any friends. :) It'll take time I'm sure. The people here
seem to be so close-knit and everyone knows everyone else so if you are not in
that circle - then it may take a while before you're 'let in'. That's what I
have been told anyway. But I have met some great people around where I live and
I am sure in the coming months I will get to know them better. If you want to
get together some time let me know! :)
I am in your age range too! Actually younger - only 23! :)) Take care! Holly

Subject: Moving to Malta
Hi everyone,
My husband James and I are in the process of moving to Malta. He is
working at the Intercontinental Hotel as Food & Beverage Director
and as I am 4 months pregnant with our first baby, I won't be
working. I was wondering if anyone could possibly give me some
advice on a few things...
- What is the best way to meet other expats? I usually work and so
meet people through work but as I am not working I am worried that I
won't have the opportunity to meet people. James has been working
in the hotel for a month or so now, and it seems that expats of our
age (early 30's) don't really go there much...I was over in Malta
last weekend and really enjoyed it, but am a little daunted by the
fact that this will be the first place that I move to where I don't
know anyone.
- Does anyone have any recommendations on Obstetricians? I will be
delivering back in London but in the meantime will need to find
someone for check-ups in Malta. I have heard about St. James'
hospital in Zabbar, but any recommendations would be really
welcome. Likewise if anyone knows of any antenatal classes -
pilates, yoga, exercise that would be great too.
Thanks,
Sara

Hi phil,
My husband and I are also moving to Malta and having our first baby
(James has actually started work already). While I was over there for
a visit (I am not moving out until 11th April), we bought a car at the
VW garage in Msida (I think)and it was open on Saturday afternoon.
The only problem we found with buying a new car over there is that
they are bloody expensive!
I also had a look in the yellow pages and there seemed to be quite a
few baby shops around, including a mothercare. I am sure that you
will be able to find most things there. Where are you working? James
is at the Intercontinental hotel and I have given up work for the time
being as there seems little point - I am due in September and am
delivering in London so would have to leave by August anyway.
Hope the info was useful,
Sara
