It looks like you will have to go to mainland Italy. But, here is some 2001
information that might be helpful. If you find better data, please post.
Everyone wants to know how to get to Tunisia from Malta. Maybe some of these
same companies serve Malta directly.
Some of the information did not scan well so I tried to fill in most of the
information, but I am now out of time.
I hope this is helpful or at least gives you a place to start.

GETTING THERE
BY FERRY
There are ferries to Tunisia from Trápani (Sicily), as well as from Naples and
La Spezia (summer only), Genoa, Marseille arid Cagliari (Sardinia). In the past
there have been ferries from Malta, but curently there are none. Most services
arrive in Tunisia at La Goulette, the port for Tunis (see p.108).
The Trápafli—Tunis ferry crossing is the short est, with one service a week
run by Tirrenia Navigazione, and another run by Linee Laura. The flrrenia boat
actually starts in Cagliari and can also be picked up there. In midsummer,
especial ly, you’ll need to be prepared for a harassed and frantic time buying
tickets in Trdpani. Booking
ahead is advisable, and essential if taking a car across any time between
mid-June and mid- September You would also be well advised to get a full return
ticket in advance, especially if you’re planning to return during the last two
weeks of August, when the boats are packed with returning migrant workers. There
is also a weekly service from Naples, operated by Linee Lauro, and a summer
service run by the same firm from La Spezia.
Ferries from Genoa and Marseille are in some respects more convenient and
certainly pleasanter than those from Trapani, where pas sengers (mostly
Tunisians working in Europe) are often treated more like cattle than customers.
Car drivers, however, will need to make reservations three or four months in
advance for summer crossings on the Marseille and Genoa routes.
Both of these are operated by Compagnie Tunisienne de Ia Navigation )CTN or
Cotunav), Tunisia’s national line, which runs one weekly ferry in winter rising
to as many as three out of Genoa and five out of Marseille in summet sup
plemented by SNCM Ferryterranbe boats. The Marseille service occasionally
departs from Nice or Toulon instead, and occasionally serves Bizerte or Sfax
instead of Tunis.
The quarterly OAG Cruise and Ferry Guide, available for £50 from OAG, 6 Church
St. Dunstable, Beds LU5 4HB )®0800/731 0153), or at many public reference
libraries and travel agents, should carry current information on these ferries,
as should Thomas Cook’s monthly European Timetables (the red volume), also avail
able in public libraries or from any branch of Thomas Cook. Latest information,
howevet is best checked with the operators, or on the web- sites of their agents
(Viamare for Linee Lauro, or SNCM for CTN).

Let me know if you still need information about traveling from Malta
and Tunisia. There seems to be more available than I originally
thought.
