Re: [British Expats in Malta] Moving to Malta

Hi. There are many great things about Malta. The sun, the sea and the wonderful
people you meet and if you have kids its a great place for them to be brought
up. The standard of education is second to none.
I moved to Malta 3 years ago but have found it very difficult. I have made
some great friends over the years prior to moving to the country and have had
some wonderfull times and will continue to do so.My advice is rent dont buy as
rents are pretty cheap in comparison to the uk and its a bit of a bind with the
beaurocrats and all that goes with it. Unfortunately you will get ripped off
even if you are very carefull. If you have a property in the UK keep it, rent it
out or whatever but dont sell it. I have now bought a property also back in the
UK and plan on staying there for good in due course. There is no place like
home.As a qualified Nurse I am sure you will have no problem getting a job
whether at St. Lukes the main Hospital or St.James's Hospitals,(private) they
have a few small places around the island. The wages for nurses however are not
a patch on the UK, as although I am a retired nurse I did some voluntary work
for a short time and spoke to the staff who were
amazed at the UK rates of pay. Conditions are not great either. The grass is
not always greener on the other side.
Go for a visit if poss. stay for a month or 2 visit the local hospitals get
the feel of the place. Its much different living there than holidaying. Take my
word.
Hope it hasn't put you off too much I am sure others will have a different
view.
Best of Luck. Marilyn

We would be grateful for all information about making the move. I
intend working and am awaiting to here about vacancies for qualified
nurses.
We are interested in finding out about the way of life there, what the
cost of living is like. How easy is it to rent property whilst
searching for our ideal home, etc, etc.
Please can anyone help.
