Hello Maureen,
I don't know if this was actually meant to come to us - I think the e-mail
system on the expats site might be having a few problems.
We're David and Annette Rose from Leominster in the UK and, now that the
children are no longer children, we're seriously looking at settling home
and business on Malta. Making our third visit this year 12th to 18th
December, staying at the Pergola in Meliha.
We're hoping to meet a few people who've actually done it, so we can get a
feel for what it's really like, so if you'd like to meet up for a
chat/meal/drink or whatever, do please let us know. Best to reply direct to
my e-mail davidgrose@....
Kind regards
David and Annette

Subject: Re: [British Expats in Malta] VISITING AGAIN SOON!
Hi Alan and Tommy,
We have spoken before............... I note you have still had not
success.... just a point, you said
"Also we were told that it also depends "on who you know" whether or not
you are allowed to move to Malta or Gozo!"
This is not strictly true. You are entitled as a European to come and
settle here........
You will be required to register with the Immigration Department at Police
Headquarters and show proof of your ability to support yourselves and cover
yourself in respect of healthcare. Healthcare information is actually
available in the UK from the DWP and from the Department of Health
Entitlement Office in St. John Street, Valletta.
You will need to apply for an I.D. card when you settle and also register
with the Inland Revenue. So while you are over it might be worth a visit to
them all, that way you can find out the facts for yourselves and get first
hand information.
Another suggestion for you, why not advertise in the Times of Malta and
see if you can acquire what you want through that method.
Anyway, once more, good luck, you obviously do not intend giving up
trying.

Hello again from Devon,England!
We were in touch with this group a few months ago regards our hopes
to relocate to Malta or Gozo next year. We visited last March.
Since then we have sent our C.V's to numerous places such as Nursing
Homes,Hospices, etc but with no responce.Recently we have found out
that Malta has strict quotas regards giving work permits to British
Citizens. Even just for Part-Time work which is all we want! This
surprised us because Maltese Citizens can come to the U.K. and work
without restrictions. We naturally assumed that this was a reciprical
arrangement! Despite this setback,we have not given up hope. The law
may be relaxed. Also we were told that it also depends "on who you
know" whether or not you are allowed to move to Malta or Gozo! So
far,we don't know the right people!!
But we are returning for one week in mid November,so we might, by a
chance encounter, meet the right contacts!!!???
Ofcourse we realise that our age is very much against us.(54 and 64)
But there are now new laws just come into operation in all EEC
countries which bans refusal of work based on a persons age.
The perfect scenario for us would be some employment combined with
self-contained accommodation. For example,an appartment in a Warden-
controlled Complex, keeping an eye on elderly residents. Or a private
individual who needs daily assisatnce in their own home. As you
know, Tommy is qualified in this field. I also am experienced at
Caretaking, providing companionship for elderly and disabled
individuals in a loving and compassionate way. So this type of
situation would be ideal for both of us working as a team. We both
try to be very warm, gentle and kind-hearted toward others. We
believe in the Christian principal to "do to others as you would
wish them to do to you".
The other option would be Caretakers of a Villa or Appartments.
Anyway,if by chance anf group members have heard of something that
would suit us since we were last in touch,or have any other
suggestions, please kindly let us know.
Maybe we could investigate the possibility when we are over for a few
days in mid-November.
Thanks once again!
Warmest Wishes ~ Alan & Tommy
