Hi Mark
So true, I was in Malta this year after leaving five years ago, I have a Maltese
Father and went to sort property matters out as well ,your words are spot on,
Malta paints a rosy picture but what's lies below the surface is a pit of
corruption. Its a building site, over populated, polluted, expensive, dirty are
some of the words which come to mind.

Subject: [British Expats in Malta] The Maltese government are thieves
My mother is maltese and left when she was young. During that time
her aunt left her an apartment but while she was gone the tenant left
and the government took it over(without notifying her) and used it
for a social case.
Now at 70 years of age she wishes to return but cannot regain
possesion of her property.
Meanwhile the country is becoming a hotspot for non maltese to move
to.
I went to Malta this year to try and resolve this and other issues
with my mothers inheritance and was amazed by how corrupt and
backwards the country is.
As far as I am concerned this country is a shithole internally and
while many may move there and dont see this scum ridden under belly
the country is very poorly run with massive pollution (remember to
bring gas masks so whenever a bus drives by you can protect yourself),
incredible oil dependency, beaurocratic bullshit (people still cant
get divorced), hunters that protest in public for their right to kill
rare migrating birds,and so on.
