Hi I am planning to move to Malta as have been there before and have
friends there.

I have a question about dogs... I know that the info says they should
be vacinated, micro chipped and have a pet passport, and should wait
for 6 months for the rabies vacine to show. BUT I was told the same
thing when we moved to France 18 months ago, but if we weren't going to
take the dogs out of the country- you only had to wait 21 days and not
have the blood test!!!

Does anyone know if it is the same case in Malta so we could bring them
after 21 days of vacinations if we aren't planning to take them out
again?

regards tiina

solar heating is a super qualification, and I have clients ready and waiting in
gozo.
rent is easy and cheap there ..say 300 euros per month for 2 bedroom flat with
sea view.
do not bring your car...disastrous. You can buy second hand here cheaply.
keep in touch,
dave paterson and Michaella.

Hello
Yes, you've heard it countless times before. My husband and I love
Malta and wish to move there, however, have few questions. How easy is
it to find work when you do not speak Maltese? My husband is a Corgi
registered heating and plumbing engineer (he has solar qualifications
too) and I am a secretary. Also, as the Maltese government set a
minimum value of property one can purchase we would probably have to
rent. How easy it is to find work will depend on if we could get a
mortgage. Is it cheaper to ship out ones own furniture (seems to cost
around £4,000.00 plus taxes upon arrival in Malta) or to sell
everything and start again over there? Any advice whatsoever would be
welcome please. Also wonder if it is cheaper to sell the car here and
buy another one upon arrival as the import tax and registration is
high. Looking forward to hearing back from you all....
Anthea.

jonesdillon@...
Send Email Send Email

Feel free to forward this e-mail to all the friends, relatives and
colleagues on your e-mail database, inviting them to do likewise.

It is highly unlikely that you are registered to vote in the June 2009
European Parliament elections in Malta

Dear British Expat,

As a European Union taxpayer residing in Malta, you are entitled to be
informed of your EU rights and to have a say in the democratic process of
your adopted country.

However, the most recently updated electoral registers for Malta and Gozo
reveal that of the 18,000 resident non-Maltese EU citizens registered on the
local council electoral rolls, only 1,000 of us are likewise registered on
the European Parliament one.

It is highly likely, therefore, that you are one of the 17,000 resident
non-Maltese EU taxpayers who, at present, have no vote in the European
Parliament election in Malta.

Nevertheless, if you register by March 31st 2009, you will be able to
exercise your EU right to vote in the European Parliament elections,
scheduled for June 2009.

To exercise this right you may avail of the following link, for your
convenience and that of your friends, relatives and colleagues, to download
and print the 2-page prescribed European Parliament voter registration form:
(In English)

 <http://www.electoral.gov.mt/getresource.aspx?id=79>
http://www.electoral.gov.mt/getresource.aspx?id=79

This form is also available at your local Identity Card office, which you
must visit in order to enrol on the electoral register for the European
Parliament.

Please bring:

1) Your valid passport/s, if any.

2) Your Maltese identity card (even if expired), if any.

3) A national identification document, if any, of your country of origin.

For identity card holders, resident in Malta:

Identity Card Office

Evans Building, Saint Elmo Place,

Valletta VLT 2000

(Near the Mediterranean Conference Centre)

Malta opening hours:

Monday to Friday: From 7.30am till 2.00pm

Wednesday afternoons: From 3.00pm till 6.00pm

Saturdays: From 7.30am till 10.30am

Telephone: 25-583133 or 21-231245

E-mail address: electoral.office@...

For identity card holders, resident in Gozo:

Passport Office / Identity Card Office

28A, St. Francis Square

Victoria

(Near the Ministry of Gozo)

Gozo opening hours:

Monday to Friday: 7.45 till 11.30am

Telephone: 21-556317

E-mail address: electoral.office@...

Should you seek clarification regarding these procedures or wish to
ascertain if you are, at present, enrolled on the European Parliament
electoral register, please e-mail your name, surname, locality and full
postal address, corresponding to that printed on your identity card, to:

Mr. Oisin Jones-Dillon (Irish-Maltese citizen) at: jonesdillon@...

Please note the following guidelines regarding electoral procedure in Malta
and Gozo.

A few weeks before polling day, the police personally call on each
registered voter to deliver a printed voting document which displays your
personal details including photograph and the polling station where you can
cast your vote.

If you are not at home, the Electoral Commission publicizes where and how
you can collect your voting document, first from the local police station
(For Saint Paul's Bay, revert to Qawra police station) or local council
office and subsequently from the Electoral Office. Please bring both your
identity card and voting document with you to the polling station on
Election Day in order to cast your vote.

The voting system

Who am I voting for? Five Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to
represent Malta and Gozo.

How to vote? The ballot paper lists the name of each candidate along with
their party name, party logo and address.

Rank the candidates in order of preference. Put a 1 next to your first
choice candidate, a 2 next to your second choice, a 3 next to your third
choice, and so on. You can rank as few or as many candidates as you like.

If you make a mistake then you can ask the polling staff to give you another
ballot paper.

You may also be voting in local council elections, using the same electoral
system, on the same day.

Who is elected? To be elected a candidate must reach a set amount of votes
known as the quota.

The votes are counted in stages. In the first stage only first preferences
are counted. Anyone who reaches the quota is elected. Any votes received
over the quota are not needed by the elected candidate and so are
transferred to the second preference.

If not enough candidates have then reached the quota, the candidate with the
lowest number of votes is eliminated and all of their votes are passed to
the next preference on the ballot papers. This process is repeated until all
five candidates have been elected.

Yours faithfully,

Oisin Jones-Dillon

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend? to Husband and noticed a distinct
slowdown in overall system performance -- particularly in the flower and
jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend

In addition, Husband uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
Romance? and Personal Attention and then installed undesirable programs
such as AFL;? The Ashes; Football? and Golf Clubs

Conversation no longer runs, and Housecleaning simply crashes the
system. I've tried running Nagging? to fix these problems, but to no
avail.

What can I do?

Signed, Desperate

.....................................................................

Dear Desperate,

First keep in mind, Boyfriend is an Entertainment Package, while Husband
is an Operating System.

Please enter the command: 'http: I Thought You Loved Me.html' and try to
download Tears? and don't forget to install the Guilt update. If that
application works as designed, Husband should then automatically run the
applications Jewellery? and Flowers.

But remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband? to
default to Grumpy Silence,? Happy Hour or Beer.

Beer is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law (it runs a virus in the
background that will eventually seize control of all your system
resources).

Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend program. These are
unsupported applications and will crash Husband.

In summary, Husband is a great program, but it does have limited memory
and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying
additional software to improve memory and performance.

We recommend Food? and Hot Lingerie.

Good Luck, Tech SUPPORT

Thanks for your positive input Bob. That's what we were thinking of
doing. We're Brits but have been out of the country for over 27
years, so not sure if we would be able to get the NI medical that
I've been reading about in Malta. Still doing research and need,
obviously to visit before 'jumping in'!

Hello,
I can relate to you my own experienc. My wife and I have lived in Malta
for three years, and we are really enjoying life. We found the move
relatively painless - once we had obtained our I.D. and residency
documents and bus pass.

We have sold our property and got rid of the furniture etc in the UK
and invested the capital, the monthly income then supplements our
pensions. We have chosen to rent a flat and have not regreted the
decision, as have most of the Brits we know

best of luck

Hello Everyone!

I am looking for any advice on moving to Malta.

My family and I (myself, partner and 1 year old son) are planning on
moving out to Malta as soon as possible. My mother is Maltese and I
have lots of family in Malta. My partner is currently looking for
employment and if he is successfull with that we will make the move. I
am confused about the law on working - can anyone shed some light? I
am aware we need to get out ID cards etc but are there any othe things
we need to apply for? Also any advice on doctors, dentists, pre-
schools for my son (i would prefer he went to an english teaching
school). We are planning on moving to the Birkirkara area. Also any
info on a good shipping company?

Thanks so mych for any help!

He found three such girls in a lounge bar, one blonde, one brunette and one

To the blonde he said “ I am the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland, how much would it cost me to spend some time with
you?” The blonde replied “£200.00” he posed the same question to the brunette
and she replied “£100.00” He then asked the Redhead the same question and she
replied.

“Mr Prime Minister if you can get my skirt as high as my taxes, if you get my

Relocate with you? Yes, but not necessarily enjoy the (legal) right to work
here.

Though the shortage of qualified and experienced nursing staff is, at
present, chronic, I'd advise you to be highly mindful of comparable
contractual terms, conditions, (relocation) benefits and salary elsewhere in
the Mediterranean basin.

Malta is very expensive, so a (British) family life on a single average
salary is unlikely to be sustainable.

Hi,
We living in Bugibba at the moment. Been here about 2/3 weeks. The
other half works, but I don't. We have two daughters and I really need
to make some new mummy friends!!!
Girls are 2 and 5 months. So if anyone knows of toddler groups, good
places for the children to play and mums meet or want to meet up for
coffee.
I'm loving it here, but starting anywhere is hard. I'd welcome any
advice as well.
Any good toy shops? Is there anything like the NCT or netmums??

Hi Maria,

I bought a 2 bed flat in Swieqi and had the same issues. Its good to
buy local, of course, but also I am a keen IKEA shopper, so I know
what you mean. I looked into contaniers and it was going to cost
£3,000 for my stuff so i gave up on that one. Then I found out about
the private company theat run a IKEA Catalogue service, they operate
from San Gwann. You can order anything you want from the IKEA
catalogue and give it to them and they bring across a shipping
container each month. They add on costs for shipping and their
commission, but so far I have brought over settees, and flat packed
bedrooms with no problem.

I did get ripped off by a local handyman, but have now found a couple
of reliable guys who advertise on DI-VE website.

Julie

Hi Flavia,

Thanks, not sure where I went wrong with the quotes then, because I got three,
and £3k was the cheapest for a 40 ft container and packing etc. It would
be good to have the contact details for future reference, thank you.

Hi, Julie.
£3k really sounds too expensive.
We shipped our entire house contents via container( a 40-foot) from
Dublin to Malta for €2000 with Hapag Lloyd.
We had good, reliable agents.I'll be glad to pass on their details if
you like.

Crickey! £3000 is a wee bit steep! Thanks so much for all the info Julie.....
my only slight consolation this end is that we have a close family friend in
Malta who owns a shiiping company (Transpak), so I might give him a shout before
I start to buy too many things. You know how it is with IKEA - I have already
planned a kitchen on their fantastic online planning service, and have visited
the store to figure out which sofa beds/ bedroom suites etc would be nice....but
I really do have to think twice about the shipping cost!
Once again - thanks so much for replying - I do appreciate it!
Regards
Maria
