I. "Back to the Security Council"_ Editorial: Tai Samyone
_ Were the issues of genocide and nuclear weapons to be substantiated and form the basis for the next UNSC resolution, there is less likelihood that it would be vetoed. If the charges of ethnic genocide and the development of nuclear weapons are to be used to bring the 'situation in Burma' to the attention of the UNSC in a more meaningful way, then more authoritative and compelling information will need to be compiled.............
II. " Junta's Multiple Standards" _ Commentary: Dr. Tayza
_ it seems, we are seeing the beginning of an era of controlled ambience for limited political activities in Burma where pro-junta lackeys can thrive, neutral socio-political groups and activities are a little bit tolerated, but zero tolerance on pro-Daw Suu and pro-NLD activists...............
III . "From UNSC to ICC" _ Commentary : Dr. San Oo Aung
_ Trying to push for the UN Resolution on Myanmar is actually a win-win situation for us. See, although SPDC escaped UN action with the help of vetoes from unholy alliance of Russia & China, they were forced to make concessions to UN, like releasing 88 Generation Student Leaders......Once ICC accepts the attempted genocide case, UNSC must take action, Russia and China cannot veto in such a case.............
IV. " Junta's Hidden Agenda" _ Commentary: Cedric
_ The regime will only choose to bare its true face to the outside world when it feels the time is ripe......There have been recent suggestions of evidence that the regime is working to develop nuclear weapons. Logically, this would be a mid-term development project, spanning, say, a dozen years, with the end result — if successful — the production of plutonium bombs..........
V. "Democracy versus Dictatorship"_ Commentary: Dr. Khin Maung
_ Dictatorship in any form of civilian, military, communist or socialist system is basically the same, the greed for power monopoly. The monopoly of power is their common objective. Naturally, the vetoes of China and Russia at the UNSC are not surprising to us. They only look at power unilaterally. It is not Capitalist versus Socialist, but Democracy versus Dictatorship that is the battle we are facing today.............
VI. " Federated Shan States in Olden Days" _ Commentary: Khun Hom
_ When I was brought up as a little boy among the Tai peasants, I could still recall in the 50s the country was so peaceful, a stranger could walk in the door at any time for an overnight as an unexpected guest. In olden day Federated Shan States, the community spirit was tremendous. But that was not the case after General Ne Win took over the country............
VII . "Is The Law To Stand On Its Head?" _ Commentary: Sai Merng Mai
_ Hkun Htun Oo and the 8 other Shan leaders have now been unjustly incarcerated for 2 years, with the sad passing of Myint Than in May of last year.......In February 2007, the Burma Lawyers' Council issued a lengthy document detailing the cases and the court's decisions along with their own legal analysis of each of the charges made against the men.............
VIII. " A Philosopher's Way: Federalism & Democracy" _ Opinion: Khun Hom
_ FEDERALISM comes in many shapes and forms, the limiting factors being the ideals and the spirits of men who institute them. Genuine federalism and democracy is inseparable.................
IX. "Exploitation and abuse of children in Burma"_ Opinion: JORDBUR
_ he wished a law to ban child labour throughout Burma, imposing severe penalty for child labour employers and agents, assistance scheme for parents to make sure that kids will be learning instead of suffering and time to establish NGOs and schools for those kids, time to raise mandatory schooling up to 8th Standard.. ..............
X. "Twenty Restrictions on Internet Cafes in Burma"_ Special Report: Dr. Tayza
_ Military regime recently tightened its restrictions on internet cafes in Burma to limit ordinary people's internet access. ..............
XI. " Security Council Meeting" _ Cartoon: Feraya
XII. " Guns for Gas" _ Cartoon: Taisamyone
XIII. " Supporting Peaceful Protest in Burma" _ Announcement: Canadian Friends of Burma
_ admire the courage of the people who risked danger to publicly demonstrate against the social crisis and corruption perpetrated by the ruling junta................
