CONCENTRATING SOLAR POWER EDM 123   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #113 of 124 |

The world´s deserts could generate all the carbon-free power we need at relatively low cost. Please ask your MP to sign the Early Day Motion described below, in support of developing this electricity, as a vital way of combating climate change. Please forward the email to others.

Thank you

Subject: FW: PLEASE WRITE TO YOUR MP ASKING HIM OR HER TO SIGN EDM 123

Dear Friends of the Earth Group Coordinator,

In the recent FoE publication, “Renewable energy – your questions answered”, a couple of pages describe the large scale solar electricity generating system called Concentrating Solar Power, and the concept - known as DESERTEC - for bringing this electricity from the deserts of N Africa to Europe.

A voluntary group called TREC-UK has been promoting this technology for some years and is starting to make some headway with UK politicians. One MP, Dr Howard Stoate, is a keen supporter of CSP and DESERTEC, and for the second year running has put down an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons.

TREC-UK is asking for your help in getting as many MPs as possible to sign Early Day Motion 123 08-09

The DESERTEC concept is probably the single most effective means of cutting worldwide emissions of CO2. The worldwide potential of the DESERTEC concept is so large that, on its own, it could provide all seven of Stephen Pacala and Robert Socolow's "stabilisation wedges" , and more.

Information about the DESERTEC concept may be found on www.trec-uk.org.uk and www.desertec.org . Endorsements of the concept by high-profile organisations and individuals may be found on www.trec-uk.org.uk/endorsements.html .

It would be good if as many people as possible would write to their MPs, asking them to sign the EDM.

To make this as painless as possible, an example letter has been provided, with a link to the free WriteToThem service, on this page: www.trec-uk.org.uk/lobby.html#EDM123 .

Please check here before you write, to see if your MP(s) have already signed the EDM

It should take only a few minutes to write a letter and send it off.

Your group may cover more than one parliamentary constituency, in which case we would ask that you write to all the MPs.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Robert Palgrave
