I know this meeting has only one local MP but this is the only no 3rd runway meeting organised by HACAN in North London. 4 of us handed out 150 leaflets at Highbury Station last night - made a change from ccc leaflets. If you cannot make this one, don't forget the big meeting on the 25th in Central London. http://www.hacan.org.uk/

Heathrow Expansion Plans ‘Could Hit North London Hard’
Public Meeting
7th February 7.30pm
Highbury Baptist Church
(corner of Highbury Place and Baalbec Road , opposite Highbury Fields)
Speakers include:
Sian Berry, Green Party Mayoral Candidate,
Emily Thornberry MP, Islington South and Finsbury
John Stewart, Chair HACAN;
local residents’ representatives; environmental campaigners
The campaign group HACAN has claimed that the plans to expand Heathrow could hit North London badly. The group, which campaigns against the expansion of Heathrow, will be holding a Public Meeting next week in Highbury to outline the impact the expansion plans will have on North London . The meeting will be addressed by the Green Party’s candidate for Mayor, Sian Berry , and Islington MP Emily Thornberry.
The Government is currently consulting the public on proposals to build a 3rd runway at Heathrow and increase the number of aircraft using the existing runways. If the plans went ahead, the total number of planes using the airport would increase by 50%.
John Stewart, Chair of HACAN, said, “Despite being many miles from Heathrow, North London could be hit hard by the expansion plans. Over the last few years aircraft noise has become a real problem in many areas of North London . More than half of all planes landing at Heathrow fly over places like Highbury, Finsbury Park and Stoke Newington. And there have been an increasing number of complaints about the impact aircraft noise is having on Hampstead Heath and Alexandra Palace . Expansion will only make things worse.”
Stewart added, “The proposed expansion of Heathrow would also add to the problem of climate change. The World Development Movement has calculated that a third runway alone would be responsible for the same amount of CO2 in one year as the entire economy of Kenya .”
The consultation end on 27th February. The Government is expected to make a decision later in the year.
