Well I agree mostly, it was nice in a 'raising national conciousness'
kind of way but Phil was very full of himself, he has a very odd
sense of appropriate harmony and accompaniment, perhaps that is 'all
the rage' in traditional music today. Catriona McKay was very - dare
I say - funky - or even groovy? - but I was not sure how 'Scottish'
in any sense her style was, and I was amazed how she snapped into
harp geek mode to explain all kinds of mind numbing technicalities -
explains somewhat the garbled accounts I recieved from non-musicians
who had obviously been trying to grab factoids from the rush of
jargon - even I didn't understand everything she was talking about!
It was kind of sad seeing Phill drooling over the harps in the museum
and saying 'how did they ever make such finely crafted objects' and
'I wish I could have heard them being played' when there is a most
exquisite working replica not an hour up the coast... ah well... Also
did anyone note the loving close up of the modern display stand in
the middle of the Lamont sequence?
Back to not watching telly at all, normal service will be resumed asap.
And what about that Gaelic singer on Skye???
I would have thought you would like the driving scenes Mary!
