I'm just looking through "Scottish Life and Culture : A compendium of
Scottish Ethnology Volume 10: Oral Literature and Performance Culture"
As well as having a hugely unwieldy title this book is great for
bringing together a renge of different authors including Keith Sanger
& Alison Kinnaird who provided the capter on harps
But I was disconcerted by a number of things not least the aparrent
confusion between verse and song, and the way that the chapter on
classical music is shunted out of the music section
I dont know if the rather disjointed tone and obscure language of
some of the sections is a reflection on intellectual life here in
Scotland or just a feature of this series
I have not had a chance to check out other volumes in the series.
Anyone else have any comments on this book?
I'm currently considering whether to carry it in the Emporium.
