Details of the Macmillan Coracle Challenge 2008

The first Coracle Relay Race World Championship is taking place on
the
River Severn in Shrewsbury on Friday 6th June 2008. The event will
consist
of 8 heats with teams of 4 paddlers and a coracle and the winner of
each
plus fastest second places going through to semi-finals and then the
final.
Each team has paid an entry fee of £50 and have pledged to raise a
minimum
sponsorship of £300 with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer
Support.
The first heat will start at 4.30pm. As well as the actual racing
there
will be entertainment for the supporters and racers in the form of
street
entertainers (jugglers and acrobats etc) there is a Pimms Bar, a hog
roast,
tea and cakes, an ice cream stall and various childrens
entertainment.
Situated on the banks of the river Severn at the Pengwern boat club
there
are many good vantage points from which to watch all the action,
spills and
thrills. Last year at our inaugural "Coracle Challenge" £21,000 was
raised
for Macmillan Cancer Support. This year with a bigger and better
event we
hope to well exceed that figure. More information can be obtained by
