Hi all, especially Chris,
At the moment I am still in posession of the OKI printer, it is
sitting here in Essex, so as Chris says is ready for anyone to pick
it up. There is the posibility of Peter coming this way soon and this
may solve the problem.
The printer is not big, but it is heavy. It is not difficuilt to
carry, but you certainly know you are doing so.
An alternative would be to ship the printer but I suspect the
shipping costs might be excessive, so I am treating this as a last
resort.
As to the new editor, I can think of no better person to edit the mag
than the new editor Alan - he has an encyclopedic knowledge of
coracles as well as a wide variety of contacts, many outside the
Society. His one problem is he is not at the moment computer
literate, but this should change as he has just aquired a new laptop.
The ideal solution would be for someone to offer to format and print
the mag. I am happy to give my copy of Page Plus (original and never
registered) to the society (I now have a more recent version).
Do I get the impression you may be volunteering for this Chris?
The actual printing stapling and envelope stuffing I recon took about
a day.
If so I can get Page Plus in the post, and we can worry about
shipping the printer if the problem is not resolved by publication
day.
Dick
PS. As far as I know, there is no OCR program that will recognise
handwriting and the result is always relative to the quality of the
original text and the quality of the scan.In any case some editing is
usually required. A possible alternative could be speech recognition,
but considering my past experiences with this I can't recommend it.
