Re: Feb update

Hi all and especially Alex,
thanks for this - the Society needs all the input it can get :-).

I agree with all of this.

A couple of points.

1 Whoever does the site needs to be accountable and the ability to
update needs to be in the hands of more than one person - this was
the problem with Conwy's site. He payed for and ran this, what he
said went. Hence the fuss about his logo.

2 Can we use the domain name already registered.

3 We can experiment. The site can be saved to disk etc. and if a
chosen host does not work out it can easily be moved - not sure about
the domain name tho, also problems with any google links.

Dick

PS sorry for the multiple posts, my brain is only capable of replying
to one post at a time.

your Serif Page Plus allows you to save as HTML files. If it does
then you can do your website using it. You'll then need either to
download a free ftp file manager (like Core FTP Lite) or you might
find that your webhosting has a built in uploader. Obvious advantage
to using one program to do both your magazine and your website is
that you can get the two to look the same/similar.

a blog site like https://www.blogger.com/start, which is what I've
done. If you take a look at http://paisley-peking.blogspot.com/ which
is a blog I set up and then singularly failed to update, it's a basic
blogger template, but tweaked to include my own logo, and
preferences. It's not that hard to do, they provide decent "help, how
do I do this guides" and if you wanted you could easily have the
domain name www.coraclesociety.co.uk or .com directed to the blog.
And like I said it's free.

explaining what the coracle society is, and then under have entries
(which could include photos of regattas, writings, redirection to e-
bay, links etc. The other great advantage would be that if you want
to add anything you don't have to rewrite your website, just make a
blog entry either directly through the Blogger site, or even e-mail
it in.

be happy to if you don't mind it not being done instantly (maybe a
week or so) as I've already benefitted hugely from everyone's
knowledge on here.
