DANCE LINKS – MAKING LINKS
Training and Networking Days for Dance Artists, Dance Practitioners & Out of School Dance Providers
A project managed by Youth Dance England and delivered by the National Dance Teachers Association and Dance South West
Autumn 2006 & Spring 2007
We are looking for practitioners to become involved in Dance Links, a new initiative to create more opportunities for children and young people to dance. Applications are sought from practitioners with experience of teaching children and young people who want to lean how to get the most from this initiative. Deadline for applications 3-Nov-06.
Dance Links
Dance Links is a dance specific project within Club Links – an initiative, which aims to improve links between schools and dance providers funded by the DCMS through the PE, School Sport and Club Links Strategy (PESSCL). The first stage of the project brought together the National Dance Teachers Association working in partnership with Youth Dance England to produce Dance Links – A guide to delivering high quality dance for children and young people (DfES, November 2005 downloadable as .pdf document at www.dancesouthwest.org.uk/resources/index.php). The guide focuses on key elements regarding the provision of high quality dance experiences for young people and the way in which their experience of dance can be enhanced through working with out of school dance providers.
Dance Links 2 (2006-2008)
Led by Youth Dance England, Dance Links 2 is taking place to build capacity in the dance sector to increase the links made between schools and out of school dance providers. Making Links is being delivered by the National Dance Teachers’ Association on behalf of Youth Dance England as part of the Dance Links 2 programme.
Making Links: Training and Networking
Making Links aims to facilitate the development of high quality dance projects through promoting the best practice identified in the Dance Links guide.
Two one-day events will be run in the South West during 2006/07
The first day introduces key concerns of the Dance Links publication including:
§ principles of best practice in dance both within and beyond the curriculum
§ high quality learning and teaching
There will also be a focus on the contexts, practicalities and essentials of working in schools. Following Day 1 and in preparation for Day 2, you will be expected:
§ to map your own experience and interests as a dance artist / dance practitioner / out of school dance provider against the key concerns of Dance Links
§ to identify your strengths and your professional development needs
§ to develop a portfolio which demonstrates what you have to offer as an artist / practitioner / out of school dance provider.
The second day will include discussion groups and seminars for teachers, Partnership Development Managers, School Sport Coordinators, artists, practitioners and out of school dance providers leading into a marketplace event during the afternoon.
